Amazing 33 fuel economy!!

I was really impressed by the fact I got 520kms from 50L of fuel in my carbied 1.7L 33, and thats not from driving carefully to see how far I can get. I have never reached that number before! Closest I have got is 475kms. The only thing I can attribute it to is driving for longer distances in 80/100kmph zones (car loves it!) Perhaps these engines are more efficient in the slightly higher rpms?

What other L/100kms are other people getting in their boxers?

630-650 km from 45L, that includes five 1/4 mile races, 130-140 km/h on the highway(550 km) and some mountain road

What Alfa was that with? Maybe a 75 TS? Thats crazy fuel economy.

Proves my point about higher rpms being more fuel efficient...what capacity? 1.2L and single carb?

yeah, so similar to my fuel economy of 9.62L/100kms. What engine capacity?

Im impressed with mine as I have never got to that number before, and being a pair of 40idf webers, I think I did good! Usually I get about 10.5 or 11L/100kms

My sud gets around 6.5L/100km on average with the 16v engine.

When I was running the old 8v 1.7 I used to get 10l/100km no matter how I drove it or what I was doing, it just always seemed to be the same.

But in general, I think the 16v engines are very fuel efficient, I remember once my brother got 770km out of 42L in his p4 on a long drive up north. He was pretty impressed.

- Yep, that is the one. Should be noted, however, that the tyre pressure was a bit low, I reckon that with more air it would probably go even better. Sure helped turning at low speeds

Just guessing, but re-higher rpm, would it be likely that another thing contributing to better fuel consumption at a higher rpm vs a lower one be the torque curve?

I know that the 1.7 engines hit peak torque at around 3500rpm and the older engines hit power a bit higher up the range, maybe it's that at a lower speed when the engine needs that little bit more fuel to coast because it's not in it's power band that causes this?

I think that's very interesting, because they always said that the golden speed was like ~90km/h for fuel economy but that must be a fairly general application of a rule?

lenus.

PS: I also remember in my first sud 1.5 the info book that came with it said that the 1.5 single carb engine would do 6.6l/100km @ 90km/h and like 8.8 or something for 120km/h...

I used to get about 550 from my 16v, driving softly in country 60km/h areas no stop start. Been getting around the same with my TS but lots of overtaking in 100+km/h area's. Not sure on tank sizes about 45l.

I average about 9.6l/100km in my 33 veloce (twin dellortos) for daily driving, but got about 8.3l/100km on a long run recently averaging 70-80 mph (110-130km/h). Not sure if its just running at higher revs, may also give better economy when hot, and not in stop start situations.

Hi,
fuel-injected 33s have better fuel economy than those fitted with carb engines
the tank capacity is 49 liters, on the 1.3 engine fitted with the marelli system i was able to reach 1134kms on a full tank.
having installed a fuel flow meter on the dash (electronic device computing the product of injection time and engine rpm) i have observed that low revs and high gear provide the best fuel economy. However if the rpm drop below ~1800 and you have too floor the gas pedal, the engine load increases and the engine sucks petrol like crazy ; dropping one or two gears and revving the engine is better.
all the best

I used to drive my Alfa 75 with a 3 liter V6 at around 0,9l/100km.

The Alfa 33 1.7 8v with twin Dellorto did 1l/100km the last time I gave it full tank, though, I just bought it and I have only been to the gas station three times so I'm not used to drive it yet...

I was hoping to be able to drive it at around 0,6-0,7 if that is possible...

you ment 9 L/100 km and 10 L/100 km or this is the oil consumption

Ops, of course I meant 9L/100km and 10L/100km...
Or actually 0,9L/10km and 1L/10km...
But they both mean the same... :-)
