How to remove (or turn) oil vapor separator

Hi all
I'm in the progress of putting a 1.5 into my 33 to keep it running during the winter, while I restore the 1.7ie.

I've moved all the injection and everything, except the oil vapor separator. It points forward on the 1.5 and to the right on the 1.7. I need it to point right to clear the plenum but it's not being very cooperative.

I suppose it's just pressed down, but when I tried to lift or turn it with a plier it just got dented.

If I remember correctly the steel tube is press fitted into the aluminum bell housing. You need to heat up the aluminium around the tube and pull it out.

Is this an IE-type separator or a carburettored one? The IE version had a big "pod" on top of it which is held on with a screw - which you probably can't see because it's down inside (where you pour the oil). It may turn if you slack the screw off - I can't remember if it's keyed or not.

If it's a carby one, then yes, it may be that the only way is to use the torch - to cut it off and reweld it on pointing in the right direction. I only say that because I tried once to get one out of the aluminium rear cover casting and it did not go well. Not at all.

Good job I had a spare.

Chris

It's the 1.5 straight tube one. I removed the fuelpump plate on the 1.7ie but saw nothing that would keep it into place, so I figured it would be the same on the 1.5.

As it's only a tube I could just aswell cut it of and weld it back, and If it breaks to scrap I'll lathe a new.

i was tinkering with my 16v engine for the sprint today and the whole tube pulled right out of the rear cover, doubt this is normal but it means i can rotate the whole lot towards the back of the car to make fitting a catch tank alot less cluttered.

Why is the gearbox attached to that engine a 4x4 box??

What sort of 1.7ie are you running!!!

*edit* I see that you are in Sweden, and I see that your car is a wagon, so it's probably standard over there for 4x4 wagons to have a 1.7ie

I'm jealous.

Here's the project thread, Swedish but you get the pics
AlfaPower - Dill & Gräslök, 33 Sportwagon 1,7ie 4x4 megasquirt kompressor - Powered by XMB

The car is now a 1.5ie, put the engine in yesterday. Just have to wire in the vacuum hoses and some electrical.

The vent outlet still points forward, it wouldn't move so I loosened the pulse damper/fuel pressure bracket to make it clear instead.
I'll have to add a elbow and some hose but it seemed a smaller project than heating it up, with all the injection being there and all.

I too like it It seemed a piece of cake fitting it, without all fuel, vacuum and electrical there... ...and then I put the engine in the car... but it shouldnt be impossible

Here's a pic of how I did, no pipe was to find so I used a t-pipe and plugged the extra connection.
