Lots of hard work is the short answer!
Bolts, brackets, fixings etc were all electroplated. Just wished I knew the place that did this before I rebuilt the engine, otherwise I would have done *every* bolt. The worst part about electroplating is getting a box back full of stuff all mixed up and having to sort out what goes where...
Suspension arms and antiroll bar were just blasted and powder coated.
I was about to reinstall the alternator and thought to myself "nah can't put that back in looking like that". So I stripped it down and cleaned it up. Really its not hard at all, it just takes a lot of time!
Won't get much work done over the next few days, I'm off to Canberra to see the Auto Italia festival

Pics of this weekend's progress...
Cheers Fly33boxer for your assistance with getting the dash out
With a bit of luck this week I can get one whole free day away from the office to clean/sand/prime the battery/peddle box/heater compartment and start dismantling the components. I intend to:
- rebuild the peddle box, master and clutch cylinders.
- dismantle the heater core / aircon evaporator + cleanup
Drop off another batch of components for blasting / powder coat / electroplating.
Watch this space

ummm
the build up looks fantastic!!! with the rear drum brakes, i'd just leave them there and see how the go, remember that installing a hydraulic handbrake is not only illegal in most Aussie states its also a pain in the ***.
One question that cropped up was; did you baffle the sump at all? I thought of this after you mentioned the motors poor oil history...cos the new motor wont be going so great if it can get an oil through its guts. But then again as you said its only a daily driver and all this depends on how wild you like to drive

Cheers for the nice comments guys
Will post more pictures of progress after the upcoming weekend. Last weekend I had a lucky score, a full set of Kmac performance springs for $44! Have dropped them off to be blasted and coated, but I'm yet to know if they will be suitable as I hadn't planned on getting the springs until I purchased the new wheels and measured everything up. *Hopefully* they will be ok. Also got a new pair of Koni yellows for the front struts, so with a bit of luck my suspension is all organised
Battery/heater box/pedal box compartment is about 80% sanded back and ready for primer - this has been the most awkward part of the car to clean up. Putting the wiring loom back really scares me!
Currently I'm trying to decide whether or not to get the body resprayed or just attempt it myself. A pro job will probably be with 2-pack so the external finish will be a bit more durable than acrylic. What worries me is the time to do it myself - one always totally underestimates how long it takes to finish things and I really want to finish this car ASAP.

Koni yellows for the front? Are they inserts? Can you give me the id number as they are not listed for a 33, I have yellow rears, couldn't get any for the front :|.

The Koni front shocks are insertable. The Koni part# 86-2303 "yellow". These units fit the 33 series 1&2. The 16v - series 3 model uses a different shock. I have a used pair if you are interested. $200 plus freight.

Hey guys,
Just been looking through the thread. That restoration looks terrific. Beautifull engine and engine bay! Are you sure you want to put oil in it? It'll make it dirty.
Makes me wan't to take my engine out again for further improvement. Well done. Bet it will go well.

More toys to play with! I reckon getting stuff back from the powder coater is almost as addictive as drinking good beer lol

Battery holder, steering column support, accelerator pedal, 4x Kmac springs, and Konis for the front.
