Just have to figure out what to do with the rear drums :)

I'm hoping the brembos have the same bolt pattern, and I just have to modify the offset with spacers. Won't know until I get the chance to pull a wheel off, but I reckon luck is on my side! Brake master cylinder will probably need to be upgraded as well...

Not so sure I want my 33 to be a daily driver now, I'm probably going to need a van for my business anyway so perhaps I can keep the 33 just for weekend fun. Now... time to start looking for a Fiat Ducato....

Update time!

Working 60+ hours a week with the workshop about a 20min drive from where I live has meant I only get things done in concentrated bursts. But, we have progress! Engine is in, and lots of cleaned up bits are coming together :)

Lots of electroplated (cheers Flyboxer!) and powder coated bits...

Engine is in woohoo!

Now hopefully I can keep it this clean :)

Looks like a stinking hot weekend in Adelaide coming up, so may not get much done. More pics soon!

Still an absolute **** load of stuff to be done, but hey thats restoration :) Cheers for the good words Michael!

I regret not removing the front back suspension arms, but this would mean removing the struts and associated ball joints. I'll wait until I get a pair of Koni's for the front and blast/powder coat the lot when its all off again. That last photo shows just how bad the oil from my gearbox was - but that is to say you don't need much oil to make a big mess though, as the 'box was hardly below the recommended levels.

Anyway, as soon as the weather gets cool I'll be reassembling the alternator and all the other ancilleries that I decided to restore. Has anyone got info somewhere on how to remove the clutch from the Sandan aircon compressor unit? I want to get these bits re-plated but despite removing the shaft end nut, she won't budge!

Hi

The A/C compressor pulley/clutch can be removed with the help of a puller. Once you have removed the pulley, the clutch coil is exposed and removed by releasing a circlip.

Air Conditioning Installation - Compressor Disassembly

Here is a giude how I had the compressor disassembled and repaired.

Lots of hard work is the short answer!

Bolts, brackets, fixings etc were all electroplated. Just wished I knew the place that did this before I rebuilt the engine, otherwise I would have done *every* bolt. The worst part about electroplating is getting a box back full of stuff all mixed up and having to sort out what goes where...

Suspension arms and antiroll bar were just blasted and powder coated.

I was about to reinstall the alternator and thought to myself "nah can't put that back in looking like that". So I stripped it down and cleaned it up. Really its not hard at all, it just takes a lot of time!

Won't get much work done over the next few days, I'm off to Canberra to see the Auto Italia festival :)

With a bit of luck this week I can get one whole free day away from the office to clean/sand/prime the battery/peddle box/heater compartment and start dismantling the components. I intend to:
- rebuild the peddle box, master and clutch cylinders.
- dismantle the heater core / aircon evaporator + cleanup
Drop off another batch of components for blasting / powder coat / electroplating.

Watch this space :)

ummm

the build up looks fantastic!!! with the rear drum brakes, i'd just leave them there and see how the go, remember that installing a hydraulic handbrake is not only illegal in most Aussie states its also a pain in the ***.

One question that cropped up was; did you baffle the sump at all? I thought of this after you mentioned the motors poor oil history...cos the new motor wont be going so great if it can get an oil through its guts. But then again as you said its only a daily driver and all this depends on how wild you like to drive:rolleyes:

Great work, the summer ended, my cars not finished, so i'm not paying too much attention to clean up as you so i can get onto the track. Your's is gonna look great when it's all finished m8

Cheers for the nice comments guys :)

Will post more pictures of progress after the upcoming weekend. Last weekend I had a lucky score, a full set of Kmac performance springs for $44! Have dropped them off to be blasted and coated, but I'm yet to know if they will be suitable as I hadn't planned on getting the springs until I purchased the new wheels and measured everything up. *Hopefully* they will be ok. Also got a new pair of Koni yellows for the front struts, so with a bit of luck my suspension is all organised :)

Battery/heater box/pedal box compartment is about 80% sanded back and ready for primer - this has been the most awkward part of the car to clean up. Putting the wiring loom back really scares me!

Currently I'm trying to decide whether or not to get the body resprayed or just attempt it myself. A pro job will probably be with 2-pack so the external finish will be a bit more durable than acrylic. What worries me is the time to do it myself - one always totally underestimates how long it takes to finish things and I really want to finish this car ASAP.

~Benjamin

Koni yellows for the front? Are they inserts? Can you give me the id number as they are not listed for a 33, I have yellow rears, couldn't get any for the front :|.
