Question Anyone done an Alfa Boxer engine in a Fiat 600?

There's lots of Fiat 600s with VW or Porsche H4 engines. I was wondering if anyone knows of a Boxter engine in a 600?
I have an ole 600 and was wondering if it could be possible. Only problems is that there are no Alfa 33s here in the US. At least it would be of the same family of engines (Italian instead of German).
It would be an interesting proposition.
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Could it be possible?

I haven't seen one. I prefer the idea of a souped up Fiat engine anyway.

alfasud boxer motors are often used for conversion
they weigh 100kg and are water cooled
a good complete 1.5 will cost you $150 plus freight
gearboxes are a little harder to come by

Thanks enri, I didn't realise that they would be so cheap, would that be complete with starter, alternator, carbs, etc?
I'm looking at USD $3,000 + to rebuild a 600 engine to Abarth spec which is why people use Porsche 914/912 H4 engines as a swap and at $150 for a alfasud engine that would be something different.
I've toyed with an Uno Turbo idea which is basically the same 600/850 block but they didn't sell them here in the USA either.

dont forget about freight
you can get a whole car for 500 plus 3000 shipping
150 is what i was going to list my spare motor on ebay
optional extras were going to be carby and clutch for $50.00 each
alternator and starter $25 ea but they would bring the weight over 100kg

Unless I'm about to display my complete ignorance relating to Fiat 600s (I thought that only the Giardinetta came with a boxer engine? or is that what a 600 is anyway? ) this engine can also be hotted up quite nicely (this is a no-expense-spared Abarth 595 SS replica which was at Brooklands last month). And man was it LOUD!!

Gotta worry when the carbs are bigger than the engine

My old man has often toyed with the idea of an alfa boxer sitting on the back seat of a fiat 500, yet to find a cutomer, although one has come close. There are three that i know of in adelaide as welll

Alex, thanks for the pics, it sure is a no expense spared 600.
I wonder who made the head 'cause it is not one I have seen before. It has the remote oil filter, an abarth short h2o pump and they certainly chopped up the firewall to fit the muffler & those webers are NICE, VERY NICE. I wonder who the owner is?

Just added the only two other pics I have of this little rocket

I can only suggest that you send an email for the attention of Phil Ward at Auto Italia magazine in the UK - he'd know more about it (perhaps the car has been featured in an issue already, I don't buy every one any more). The other potential source of help regarding specific parts would be Middle Barton Garage, they might be able to tell you where that cylinder head came from. Their site is also worth exploring if you don't know it - some fantastic cars in the gallery (check out the RHD 750 Bialbero at the end!).

I love Sud motors, very strong ... but they are sooooooooooooooooooo bloody heavy that a FIAT like this would never have the front wheels on the ground!!!!

That is why they use VW motors ... light weight!

If I am not mistaken, it is a "radiale" head with which the hottest version of the 1000cc Abarth Berlina Corsa was fitted. These heads are big bucks ... I believe replicas are available.

stick a bike engine in it, a jap superbike like a honda fireblade or yamaha r1 etc. I know of a guy fitting a pair (one for each rear wheel!) of aprilia rsv engines in the back of a 126.
This type of conversion is very popular here now in Minis and lightweight kit cars and would certainly shift the Fiat pretty smartly.

A bike engine, interesting, the idea did cross my mind, even more so now that I have two Honda CB engines and a Yamaha virago Vtwin engine just hanging round the house. The Zcar mini is rear engined so... I don't need to cut out much at all.

Boxer engine in a 850 Sport Coupe (later variant of 600) has been done over here. The car has appeared at local sprint meetings.
