Alfetta Wheels on Sud/Sprint
Has anyone tried putting 4 stud 15" Alfetta wheels on a sud or sprint? I am going to polish the Momo's from my Sprint and I want to put a set of rolling stock on the car, while the sprint wheels are off and getting polished. I have a set of alfetta wheels sitting here, looks like they should go on. Will there be any problem with the offset?

Should be no problem at all. I swap wheels between my 79 GTV and 86 Sprint regularly as i only have 1 set of "R" spec tyres for the track. Some are 14" x 6" other sets are 15 x 6"".

No proble fitting them as long as the maximum tire size is 195... Adter that there is a possibility that the dont fit in the arches...

They might fit ok,but the offset maybe different as 1 car is RWD the other FWD,it can upset the handling.

14" Giulietta wheels on a sprint?
Hmm.
Any more thoughts or experience with offset problems. I just made my first ever e-bay purchase of 14" campag. wheels from a Giulietta. I have 13" wheels on mine. However my parts supplier tells me that they will bolt on but otherwise wont work because they were meant for a RWD car. Given some comments on this thread, maybe it is not a problem?
Would be interested in any comment or experience.
Cheers
Paolo

The only rims that fit with no problem regardles RWD or FWD with correct offset are from alfasud , sprint ,33 , alfeta/gtv 90, and 75. All these use the same dimention wheels and can swap with no problems no matter 14'' or 15 ''. After 145 they use narrow offset (41) which fits to older models but it changes the handling to worse.

The ones I bought are 14" Camagnolos from a Giulietta so hopefully they will fit. I pick them up tomorrow so will soon find out!
thanks

Well,
Just picked up the Campag. wheels I bought on e-bay they have on them 5.5J x 13 CH. Am I missing something or are these 13" wheels not 14? They were said to be 14" Doesn't worry me as I've got 13 's on now and am happy to keep iy tht way.
BTW, does anyone know wether you can put 195's on 5.5" wheels?
Cheers

They are 13"-all earlier Giulietta wheels were 13`s until the 2 litre version.

Thanks Richard. Thats what I thought. If they work OK on the sprint at least I don't need to worry about speedo error because of the bigger wheels.

It's hard to find a definitive answer about rim and tyre size. I have a document which I downloaded a few years ago which may help. It doesn't list anything wider than 185 for 13" rims but does show 195 x 14 and 195 x 15as being OK on both 5.5J and 6J rims.
I have 185x65 on 13x5.5J Giulietta steel rims on my Sud ti and under hard cornering the rear wheels scrape the lower watts linkages. I am interested to hear that no one else has this problem and I may have to check the bushes in the panhard rod.

I finally got sick of the tyres scrubbing on the watts linkages so did a bit of investigation. The bushes in the panhard rod were fine so I checked the offset of the rims and this turned out to be the problem. A lot of the extra width of the 5.5j x 13 rims was put to the inside which results in the tyre wall being too close to the suspension. For what it is worth I measured the offset on a number of sets of rims and have provided the results below.
1982 series 3 Sud ti 13 x 5J steel rims 122mm
1982 series 3 Sud 4door 13 x 5J steel rims 122mm
1978 series 1 Sud ti 13 x 5J steel rims 126mm
1985 series 1 33 ti 14 x 5.5J Speedline (telephone dial) alloy rims 123mm
198? Guiletta 13x5.5J steel rims 132mm
Note: I am not sure about the technically correct way to measure offset, and got these figures by laying the rim down with the outside edge facing the ground, putting a straight edge across the inside edge of the rim and measuring the distance from the bottom of the straight edge to the part of the rim that mounts against the wheel hub.
As you can see the inside edge of the Guiletta rims will be 10mm closer to centre line of the car (and therefore the watts linkages) than the standard rims and this was causing the tyres to come into contact with the suspension. I have gone back to the standard 5J rims and the problem has gone away. This is a pity as the 185 tyres look much better suited to the 5.5J rims.
Based on my experience I would hesitate to fit rims with an offset greater than 122mm (possibly 126mm).
I also recently acquired a set of early 1980s period mags. These have an offset of 110mm. This should move the inner edge of the wheels 12mm further out from the centre line of the car and widen the track by 24mm (2 x 12mm). Does anyone know whether I should expect any negative consequences if I use these rims?

195s will be fine for a 5.5 rim my Mums racing sud runs 195 R-specs and theyre good for 180kmh, if the car is lowered some problems might incur due to the guards rubbing on the tyre. If its stock all will be fine
