Talking The Alfa 33 - a real beauty!

Hi all,

I just decided that this topic needed somebody to start it, so here goes!

I have never owned one, nor have I even driven one! But, I love the lines of the 33. I got to ride in a very nice AWD 33 Wagon in Australia last year. These seem to be great little cars. I wish they were available here in North America!

Please tell us about these cars and please post some pics!

Cheers,

Thats a very nice Sud indeed, Spiros - but I'm pretty sure that Alex means 33 when he says 33

If you wish, start a new thread about the Alfasud. I started this one because I really like the look of the 33. I have seen quite a few 33s while on my many visits to Italy. To me, they are very nice looking cars and from what I understand, they can be real fast too!

Like you Alex, I think the 33 is a real beauty.

When I lived in Italy I learned this soccer chant:

C'e in Italia,
Un giocatore che...
gioca calcio meglio di Pele.

Toto, Toto Schilacci, Toto Schilacci.....

Translation:

There is in Italy,
a player who...
plays soccer better than Pele.

Toto, Toto Schilacci, Toto Schilacci.....

This chant was for Salvatore "Toto" Schilacci. A soccer player from Palermo, Sicily, who in 1990 made a big impact for the Italian national team during the World Cup.

Now, I know what you are thinking. "What does any of this have to do with the Alfa Romeo 33?"

Schilacci's yonger brother was arrested in Palermo for stealing an Alfa 33. So, the soccer fans made up a second verse to the chant.

C'e in Italia,
Un giocatore che...
ruba le gomme al' Alfa trenta-tre

Ruba le, Schilacci ruba le, Schilacci ruba le....

Translation:

There is in Italy,
a player who...
steals the tires from an Alfa thirty-three.

Steals them, Schilacci steals them, Schilacci steals them...

I owned three Alfa Sud Sprint Veloce. Boy they were fun and great to drive.

For a front wheel drive it sure never felt like it. It was my first Alfa experience. I'll never forget that feeling. I sat in it, I felt secure, I felt the car was squarely camped on the street. Then I turned the engine and was infected with our common disease, Alfistitinus. I remember taking my first corner in the South of France in third and grining at the stability of the car.

Of all the Alfas I've driven, I still miss the Sprint.

I never cared much for the regular AlfaSud or the 33. Just a question of design. I felt the Alfa Sud was an odd looking egg but I was told very confortable.

The 33 looked like an almost 75 or Milano.

The 33 awd was a great car I heard but I never drove it.

Man I wish we had some Alfa Sud and Sprint in the States.

Hi,

I am one of the lucky ones having an Alfasud in the States.

After searching for several years I've found one in Germany 2 years ago.
A 1976 silver 4door series 1 "5m" with 30.000 km, original paint, almost no rust from the original owner. It's silver with red Skai interior.

My first new car was a 1972 Alfasud in grey with red Skai. Unfortunatly
it could not handle the German climate for too long and it was rusted away
after 4 years.

If one ever drove an Alfasud one can imagine how much fun it is to drive them. The wonderful sound of the boxer engine and the handling is superb.

There is a German website (text is mostly English, though) which gives you
every information you ever wanted to know about Alfasuds:
http://home.t-online.de/home/Rauen/asme.htm
I highly recommed it for all Alfa(suds) lovers.
Best regards
Hans

Hans,

You have a unique collection of Alfas. Are all these cars in the USA? The '58 Giulietta Spider is probably the most common car as the others were never officially imported.

Hi,

the Giulietta and the 76 Alfasud are in the States.
The Alfa 90 Super V6 is on the way.
The Giardinetta is undergoing some minor restoration at a friend's shop in
Germany and will be shipped this summer.
I am thinking about selling my Alfa Sei which is still in Germany.
Oh, I forgot I have a real weird Alfa 33 on the way, too. It is a 1987
Alfa 33 1.8 TD, which was only sold in Italy. This one is in very original
condtion with original paint and interior without any rust.
Regards
Hans
