Andy Burton Ferrari powered Alfasprint
I was video googling and found this. Does anyone know the specs of this rather awesome little machine? I couldn't find anything else doing a normal google search.

ahh that is too cool! remindes me a little of a stratos in action! from the looks of the video it would appear to be mid mounted (vents in the rear perspex hatch). i wonder if it is still around somewhere?!

Very nice, it does remind me of the strato's its real twitchy and u can visualize the bursts of fuel going into that motor

thats one hell of a sprint
if a fezza v8 can fit in a sprint then surely they can get one in a 159

If you look really closely at that sprint, there's something weird about it, like the wheelbase has been lengthened?
But on this subject, which is dear to my heart, I thought you might be interested in what's in my garage. I've attached it to this message so hopefull it will come through - otherwise it's tutorial time for me.

Ohhh Sh*t !! i like the rear caliper conversion but im much more interested in the chrome intakes nestled in the back! show us some more pics - what sort of trans is it running? how have you gone about mounting it? very very cool!!

Do i spy an engine and transaxle set up from a 164 or 156?? Hmm, cool.
My brother and I have a seies 3 Sud Ti that we have rather grand plans of doing something simiar with. It sits outside my bedroom window in a sad state but always inspires me in the morning!
Our thoughts were to do a logitudinal set up in the rear using a Porsche 944 gearbox, but we havent worked out how it would work connecting it to an Alfa V6. A transverse set up would be a lot simpler and would be less invasive on the passenger compartment.
Always thought a 156 GTA 3.2L 24V and gearbox would be a option in the rear, hmmm $$$
Also have some cool plans for the body, large wheel arch extensions (metal ofcourse) front mounted radiator with large bonnet airways etc.
And wheels: well if they came up and the funds were there, how about some countach wheels 15in diameter??, they look nice and the width should be right to get some power to the ground.

Or a Porsche 968 gearbox - same form factor as the 944, but 6 speed
Could just utilise the 165GTA gearbox adapted to any of the transverse Alfa V6's. It has an LSD and is 6 speed as well.
At the end of the day, whatever measurements are most suitable is what we'll end up going for. Longitudal would look the coolest though!

It's a 164 setup.
For some history; I was travelling a lot, and ended up with way too much time on my hands, and an internet connection. One thing led to another, and I ended up in a "theoretical" email debate with a good mate (who owns a Sprint and a 164) about whether it would be possible.
After a few too many beers back home one night, a tape measure was produced and it was quickly determined that yes it would fit. From that point, it was all on. At the time we were both contemplating how to go faster in the Targa NZ, and here was the answer staring at us.
The concept is to keep as many standard parts as possible, for reliability, servicability, and simplcity. Not to mention cost.
We figure that a 200 bhp 164 motor in a Sprint that weighs the same (or less) as one with a 105 bhp one, and has the advantages of RWD and a low polar moment of inertia would be a pretty fine thing.
I won't say that the 164 subframe "just bolts in", but you don't have to do much to make it fit, the gear linkage is a simple operation to sort (often a major stumbling block) and there's even still room for a boot to hold the helmets and overalls.
Given that 164s are so much wider than Sprints, we're on the lookout for flared arches (a la Delta Integrale/M3/944 style - like Alfa's own Sprint 6C) for both ends - to make the job a bit less time consuming. Did somebody say they had some?????
We had a lot of debates about longitudinal vs transverse, and the gearbox is the big sticking point. If you use a 944/Alfetta type transaxle, the motor/transmission unit becomes waaay to long to fit properly. A better option therefore becomes the subaru/audi type box (a la Sud, but stronger). Either way, you've got to make an adaptor plate/bellhousing. Having helped another mate do it for his Stratos replica, I intended never to do it again - hence, the transverse motor.

Hiya Chris, thats what can happen with beer talk... a mate of mine has been considering an Alfasud motor in a Fiat 500, again twice the HP in the same size car... the consequences of too much alcohol!
The 944 gearbox doesn't quite look as long as the Alfetta transaxle setup, the gear set hangs behind the drive shaft outputs so this reduces the length somewhat. We binned the Alfetta gearbox right from the start for that very reason.
As for wheel arches, I don't think anything exists for 'suds or sprints (other than rear as rocking horse dung 'sud trofeo kits). We intend on building mock flares with styrofoam, then copying them with plywood/mdf bucks, and then hammering metal until we get the shape that is in the styrofoam. I can see I've just kissed goodby 200+ hours of my life doing that, but the aim is to to avoid fibreglass where possible.
Our aim is to build a rear engined car that looks and feels "period" - that is with campognolo alloys (Countach, Pantera, they turn up on ebay from time to time), generous wheel arches, venting and features you would see in an Alfa 33 (race car, Stradale etc). The other idea is to make it look like a normal 'sud at first glance, but on second look "that's not really a 'sud!"..
The other benefit of a 164 set up will hopefully be getting the damn thing through emissions. I'd love to see a pair of triple throat webers on top, but that is probably asking too much with the authorities - its got to be road legal, otherwise we won't bother building it.
Would love to see some pics of how you've set up the sub-frame etc, let us know!
