Question Running car without oil filter?

Im considering installing garret t25 turbo in draw through setup using 2" SU carb. One problem I have is the oil filter being in the way of the exhaust .I want to run the exhaust manifold up the left side rear of the engine and this would be easier without the filter. As its only being used for hill climbs and very short races is an oil filter neccessary?

Yes it is important because it keeps all worn metal contained. Removing it will cause the engine to worn faster especially since you are about to use it on race. Try to find a shorter filter or combine it with an adapter and oil cooler as it will be useful due to increased heat from turbo application.

I currently have a sandwich plate adaptor for my oil cooler, which in turn could be used to relocate the oil filter, also my race car has a oil filter relocation kit which just screws onto where the oil filter was. Then all you would need is some 90 degree bends straight out of it to get your clearance. Plus i would definently be running an oil cooler if your going to be running a turbo!!!

Got mine from Autosport here in SA, but you can also get it from Outlaw speed shop also here. Pretty much any drag car street machine shop will have it, incl the earls anadiosed fittings. Im guessing online aswell.
Revolution Racegear Oil coolers & radiators Oil Cooler Accessories

Photo of my setup in my sud race car, you could use the same setup but with the 90 degree bends off of the relocation plate.
Hope this helps

For coolin, not for clearance, Ive gotten a oil/water heat exchanger from a 2.0 TS.

My engine air supply system will be belt driven, therefore i dont need that space in the back of the engine
