Supercharger/Turbocharger Thread

Since there is a bit of intrest in building a Supercharged/Turbocharged (or both at the same time Lancia style ) I propose a sticky thread dedicated to this.....Can a forum moderator please do this?

So down to business.....

The is a major lack of information on forced induction on the Alfa boxer, while I have a few magazine articles on the subject (both turbo and supercharged cars) I don't have any pics one the systems.

A quick Google search revealed a few setups, useing the single carb inlet manifold, and a simple roots supercharger. One setup was my boss's old race car engine. (the motor I'm working on is the replacement motor....), the other was a alfa sud in England running a sprintex compressor.

So the reason for this thread, report on any progress you make, parts you design and build, how-to's, types of air compressors used (eg for turbos, type and houseing ratios), dropping of static compression ratios and fuel systems.

Have fun

@spt: Gearbox is stock or changed/modified? I'm wondering how it (stock) performs with that ammount of torque?

I'm thinking of fitting a supercharger to my sprint. Anyone have any recommendations or experiences?

Thanks,

SprintQV

Uh yeah, I did some more work on that today, I've got all my flanges cut, the new computer loom ready to go, a pair of 40IDA webers in the scrap metal bin, a new Alternator and hopefully the diagram to get the knock sensor going.....

I'm going to spend the weekend hopefully on the lathe (if I can get access to it, I have a mill but no lathe ) , to work out some sort of drive system. Looking at useing a Ford AS Testar pully as the drive pully, which will give me a 1:1.12 drive ratio. Hopefully thats not too much boost, been burnt before you see and its a mildish street motor.

I also need to put a O2 sensor in the exhaust pipe....work work work :S

How ever I'm worried: I think the whole system may end up going through the bonnet......a Alfa with a shaker anybody?

I've seen centrifugal superchargers where you can mount them to the side of the engine rather than the top, with an inlet and an outlet hole. Mount supercharger, connect up the air passages and add belt... am I missing something? Are you going with a screw type or roots blower? I could see that getting messy..

Roots actually, a SC14 compressor of a Toyota 1G-GZE motor, inlet on the top with a VN commodore throttlebody, outlet down the bottom with a custom inlet manifold made of mild steel, running into 1.7 IE inlet manifolds......

As for messy, yes very quickly....lol

I'm sorta trying to keep a factory appearance.......lol...and keep the a/c and add a powersteering pump.....

Lots of silly things you don't think about, like dipsticks, PCV systems...argh!
