Polyurethane Suspension Bushes

Has any one got any experience with Powerflex and Superflex suspension bushes on their car?

I'm considering fitting them to my 16v 33 but I don't want to make the ride overly harsh because it is a fast road car.

I have them in the front of my road 33, they seem to take some of the sogginess out of the steering and I suspect that it seems to turn in better. I wouldn't have thought they contributed too much to harshness. I did both the radius arm bushes (4x) and the track control arm bushes (2x)

For a road car, I'd probably not put them in the rear, I have seen cracking failures on track cars on the rear links with poly bushes. I keep a good eye on my track car's rear for that reason.

As for the shocks and springs, now that's where you'll generate your harsh ride !

Cheers & good luck !

I ordered the front and rear Powerflex set off ebay yesterday. The bushes missing from this kit are the front anti roll bar bushes which I will order off Superflex today.

Will order the OMP strut brace today also.

Thanks Dave!

Oops forgot to mention, the catalogs in New Zealand didn't have a poly bush for the front ARB. I bought a pair of standard shaped 18mm poly bushes off the shelf at the local "Supere Cheap Auto" and spent a few happy minutes with my angle grinder reshaping the back of the bushes to fit on the front of the 33. All good !

This is probably not necesary on a road car, but on the track car, I noticed that the rubbers in the top mount were quite soft (fair enough 20 years on!) I took them into a local suspension specialist here. They took the rubber out of the mounts and replaced it with polyurethane, apparently a two pot mix which they cast in place. Helps keep the camber where it should be when cornering hard on sricky tyres...

Let us know how you go
