Suspension part 2 : Best set up for fast street?
Out of all the Alfasud's, Sprints, 33 series (series 1 right up to the 16V Boxer), many articles always say the original Alfasud was the best stock factory handler. I've driven some pretty sloppy 33's, and I still think my 1.5L Alfasud is at least as quick as my brother 1.7 series 2 Alfa 33, if not faster because I don't have to brake as hard on the corners, but I reckon by the time Alfa got to the 16V, the handling was pretty well spot on.
I'm pretty happy with my 'sud configuration so far (koni yellows and spax springs all round), but I still reckon there could be a bit less body roll. Also, because the car has been lowered, the rear axle has shifted slightly to the drivers side due to the panhard rod - so right away a couple of extras would be a bigger front anti roll bar, and an adjustable panhard rod - does any one know of a manufacturer of these?
Before I go shopping for the above though, I mentioned in another boxer thread about using 16V suspension on the Alfasud. This will require surgery for the back end, and probably isn't worth it. The front however will be, as this will allow me to fit vented discs with decent calipers. But *that* might just be what will take the magic away from the original Alfasud - maybe its that the brakes are mounted inboard, and that extra weight just isn't at the wheels? Thats a big issue really... opinions?
