I have collected all the components necessary to start installing...just the Throttle Position Sensor is missing. Anyone know which TPS is recommended to use?

Mine is a wabash 971-002, got it via triggerwheels.com the first failed after 2 months, was replaced by Chris no questions great service. this tps fits nicely after welding an extension onto the end of the throttle mechanism; I used an allen key.

I am almost half way through the installation, just a quick question. Did you guys use the temperature sensor (to correct advance on warmup) on yours? I wasn't sure if it is that important since it doesn't get too cold here.

I haven't go the temp sensor on mine, runs great in Perth (never goes below 16 degrees in the day in winter).

Regarding MAP sensor vs. TPS: I'm in the process of installing a system from Simple Digital Systems EM-4 on my 1.7l 16V boxer. It uses throttle bodies and the initial setup wouldn't work correctly due to dramatically fluctuating vacuum. Their recommendation was to add a cylinder of air as big as a coke can for all 4 vacuum lines to terminate at in order to smooth out the vacuum.
Will this even work? Or is the 16V boxer impossible to get steady vacuum? I know it's possible to go to a TPS system but I've been told this can be a good idea for a race car, but lousy on the street, particularly at low rpm.
Any ideas??

Yes it will work, and a a carb fuel filter inline will also help to flatten out the map signal. TPS, correctly mapped, will work on both race and street (but harder to tune than map, assuming map is doable)

It's all about the cams I believe with MAP, as long duration cams fluctuate the vacuum as they overlap so much. The TPS installed on the end of the throttle shaft is a neat solution, not sure why you would go for MAP. Having said that mine isn't a street driver so....

Nice and neat this setup works well on my 33.
Just bought a 1971 Fiat 124 Convertible to restore so not sure how much attention the 33 will get other than fixing race problems.

Finished the setup and got everything running, is the default map good enough or does it pay to tweak it a bit? (haven't had time to play with that side of things yet).

Factory default is a good starting point, mine is fairly modified so I have a very steep advance curve, the default worked OK though.
