Top stuff
Hi, Looking good make sure the ring is welded securly as you would not want it coming loose at high revs!! I got a large ring key from work and with the aid of oxyacetalene bent it so i could access the nut with out dropping the engine or removing the rad. Have you thought about where your going to mount your tps yet, as yours is a differant/newer type than my own. Lee

m8 those welds are good, 8 of them too!
It looks like i can mount the tps on the end of the throttle bar that runs between the two carbs. Will take it off tommorrow if I get a chance.
I had to remove the exhaust anyway as it was fractured so only another 30 minutes to drop the engine. I forgot to order the plug leads though, will see if I can get some down here although Escorts weren't sold in oz.
Going fishing tomorrow so maybe have to leave it to next week

Just to confirm, i am assuming this is the TPS version of the MJLJ? If so would the MAP version be of interest/possible to use?
cheers

you could use the MAP version, would need to take runners from both manifolds for all intakes and run them into a resevoir, may not be as neat as TPS. I purchased a new TPS module, looks like it will go on the end of the acclerator shaft on drivers side (rhd).
Got wiring done today, need to weld up exhaust and stick in back on then will try in limp home mode first.

Repaired the exhaust today, decided to redo the whole lot, so ordered some mandrel bends ready for Sat and will do from centre box back. Installed TPS onto end of throttle spindle, just fits next to the drivers side carb with a home made bracket:

PlugLeads
That tps looks great there i think i will move mine to that position eventually, was you able to retain the choke? The plug leads i used were from a ford ka set, as they are all about the same length leads and were a bosch item.hope this helps. lee

I have never used chokes with cars with webers, especially in oz I did bend the linkage on the carb for the choke (as I couldn't be bothered to remove and trim my homemade bracket).

Here is another idea for the tps mount.
I've gone the whole hog and gone the full efi route while retaining the carbs as throttle bodies.
Unfortunately I can't take the credit for the actual mount, but I don't believe it's too hard to make.
As you can see in the third pic, I still have a distributor, but the advance has been locked, and the output goes to an ignition module to control the spark. I guess the only downside with this set up is it isn't sequential inj.
I suppose all I'd have to do is weld on the trigger wheel, sensor, and buy a HT distribution block (or whatever it's called?).
Does anyone think this would be worth it? The car runs really well, now after much fiddling, but the economy still isn't great. A work in progress as usual!
Re the MAP Vs TPS argument, I first tried with a MAP sensor, but due to the cam I have installed there was not enough vacuum so it wouldn't work. Also I was told by the dyno guy that on throttle body set ups you are better off with TPS.
Great thread, keep it up!

after mine is running for a while, i'll be taking it down the dyno. I want them to be able to get the most out of the engine, with the dizzy setup all that was left was a little ign timing tweak plus rejetting as not injected. I think this will give me more fine tuning and hopefully a bit more power as it can be adjusted per 1000 rpm. how do the webers go as throttle bodies?

What is that filter on the 3rd photo? About oil fumes?

33gold, I originally intended to use the 1.7ie plenum, as this would've been easiest, but the motor ran very badly with this set up. I'm still not entirely sure why, but there has been a lot of work done on this motor and it just didn't seem to get enough air into it with that set up. A throttle body per cylinder is the ultimate anyway for breathing, and the carby airbox works fine now that I've made a bigger hole with a 80mm inlet hose connected (I did this after the pic which shows the original diameter hose). It now zips to 8000rpm no probs with a slightly louder, nicer induction noise to boot. Anyone without the airbox set up, and just filters on top of the carbs in my opinion is crazy! I tried many different set-ups (as you can tell by one of my pics) and drive-ability with the filter on top set up was terrible. Amazing noise, but the car wouldn't move 'till 4000rpm plus!
Re- 3rd pic, your right the catch tank connects to the oil breather. I'm glad I've done this, as every few months I clean it out and it's quite dirty. You can image that normally this would end-up back in the engine. Not nice when you've gone to all the effort of pulling things and cleaned everything up!

Where'd you get that tps? I'm using a Bosch 0 280 122 001, sure it's smaller than the throttle switch but that one was even another step slimmer

hi baldy,
yep i fired her up and she ran without megajolt attached (no manifolds on exhaust on so for a short time) I don't even think the engine turned over one full revolution before she fired up, very impressive. hope to finish making new exhaust this weekend and map ignition, went for 2" all the way through, made up to rear join, just need to weld hangers on and finish rear section.
