Who is a member of their local Alfa club
Just curious to know how many of us Aussie BBers are a member of their local ALFA club? I am a lapsed member of my local club, so I am not attempting to sign people up, I am just simply curious to know what the membership stats are like amongst our numbers here on the BB.

Why I havent renewed
Was on holiday in Australia and was leaving my house to go and join again but as I pulled out of my driveway someone reversed into my drivers door kind of making the car undrivable as the drivers side window broke - so my membership will have to wait until I am back on holidays
I think the club is a great thing to be part of it gives you te opportuity to talk face to face with some really knowledgable and keen alfa people - kind of like this BB and gives you access to events that are fun and intesting and may save your life - in the form of the driver training classes that they run

When I lived in Sydney it wasn't too bad - the club days at racetracks are a hoot but we didn't do any of the social events.
Now I'm too far away from events (Armidale NSW). The magazine is OK but not great. Local car clubs might be better for me but working on the house takes priority unfortunately, so the annual fee was getting wasted.

New member, joined after the Spetaccolo (sp?) and dodged the joining fee. Only been to a couple of events though.

My whole family (wife and two teenage kids) are club members and I am a committee member. We have a great time at social events, cruises and meetings. I go to Mallala to watch the sprints every now and then but haven't started racing yet. We all went to Alfesta this year and had a fantastic time. We met some great people from other states. There is no snobbery in the club and people are always friendly and helpful. We have over 200 members of all ages and it is increasing. They are one of the best groups of people I have ever been involved with.

I was a member a short time ago, but I sort of lost interest. The AROCSA wasnt for me. Seems to be a lot about racing or sprinting at our local race track (Mallalah) which is fine, Im not against it at all. But when the whole club meetings are a majority about racing and so and so's track times it gets a bit tedious. Sure have an aspect of the meeting dedicated to racing/sprinting, but not all members are into it. Also certain people use it as a means to gain business and there seems to be a fair amount of one-upman-ship - ie "my car is better than yours" etc - which I think isnt what being part of a club is about. I think if the meetings were more about gaining technical knowledge and sharing personal experiences it would be far nicer and novices could learn wonderful skills. That said I gain a lot more from going down to my garage and tinkering on my own or with mates, instead of wanking over track times...Im sure people will be upset with my opinion, but thats just it, an opinion. Perhaps its changing though...and there are nice friendly people among the group.
That said the BB is a wonderful resource, no club will allow you to meet so many like minded people with such a huge base of knowledge compared to the BB. If I have a question, there is always an answer within a few hours of posting! Its simply fantastic!

I was a member but it was a five hour drive to get to the meetings. I was living in the bush and not that motivated to drive that far. I would rejoin if I was near a club.

Can't say I got a lot out of it, the crowd although helpful and a good bunch by and large were a bit too old for my liking and there was a lopsided emphasis on track stuff which is not my schtick at the end of the day. Still as my old headmaster used to say you get out of it what you put in, and I am usually pretty busy so I never got the time to be a fully active member of the club.
The BB on the other hand, I have learned so much and get really good helpful advice and great banter. Be great if we could all organize a get together somewhere, but for the sake of our WA and SA mates Birdsville or Perhaps Broken Hill might be meeting half way.

Hear hear on the BB, but ahhh, Birdsville doesn't quite cut it as half way.
Agree that clubs give back what you put in and I haven't been able to justify it: between family, business, car, choir, rugby, biking, gym, pub...

OK maybe when the cars are up and on the road, name halfway and we race to it, first one there gets a prize or dies of boredom or thirst whatever comes first.
Halfway across the Nullabor might be fun, but no mountain curves so I may get tired of endless straight roads fith gear and right foot flat on the floor.

Haha on that basis I get a very boring trip either way . How 'bout I chuck the car on the Indian Pacific to Melbourne and we race to half-way up/down the east coast? (I don't know where that is?) Plenty of fun for everyone that way. Of course that relies on having a running car...
