Any advice finding new seatbelts for 66 105 stepnose
Greetings all,
Im trying to get a 1966 105 stepnose back on the road. I bought it last December and things are progressing slowly with house renovations and my work as an international spy taking up much of my time and money.
When I do get an opportunity to venture in to the shed, I seem spend it leaning against the sliding doors with a beer in hand and a spotlight cunningly positioned to hide all the faults just admiring the curves and dreaming of the day she proudly shows of those curves to the general public after far too many years hiddden away.
One area that needs attention soon is some new seatbelts. Has anyone got any advice on where to source new belts in Australia and what regulations if any need to be considered. Supercheap probably do a generic belt that may fit but they dont really suit the car. Im not too fussy about originality and obviously safety is the primary consideration but any advice would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
Timbo

Try chasing up a thread that was started by Beatle Bayley, or PM him and ask. He recently sorted the seatbelts in his Giulia Super and got it through Vic RWC as a five seater...
There's often an advert in Classic and Sportscar for period look seatbelts froma company in the UK called Quikfit. I think they ship internationally and make the belts to fit your car, with your choice of colour for the webbing and some lovely-looking buckles.

Closer to home call Rare Spares in Melbourne, I got a set of tan lap and sash belts for my GtV which are a good match for what was originally there and not over priced at all. Mine had to be custom made colourwise but otherwise you should be able to get a black set pretty quickly but make sure you know the correct lengths. Actually the will do any colour and meet Aussie saftey standards which is the most important thing, but they do look very period.

That sounds like an easier solution Phil, do you have any photos of them?

I'll go better than that. here is the link
http://www.rarespares.net.au/Parts-Accessories.aspx
Product code is K2257 just pick a colour that suits and get the length right as there are different sizes. I forgot which one goes in a GT.
Although they mostly do Holden Valiant, Ford (yawn), they might have hard to get bolts etc that we may need, I should look further into it.

Phil, dont you know if you post "yawn" after other car brands you start a torrent of boring, off topic name-calling and people getting upset about our collective sense of humour?
Oh damn, now i've posted a smilie to make myself feel better.
Those belts look a bit more contemporary than the ones from your old-country... I'll try and chase up a link for them.

Yeah yeah point taken.
But...
Ben do you really think a valiant owner would use this BB? I am not sure any of them own computers?
Old Country ? , Ben I am an Aussie, I just lived in the UK for a bit.
What are the Pommie belts like ? The Rare Spares ones are the business, but keep the rubber sleave that goes on the B Pillar from the originals to truely get the look. My old ones died on the day I picked the car up in Sydney, my Brother in law and I used rivetts and raw plugs to patch em up as the plastic had broken so the web would slide right through the buckle. Got back to Brisbane and when I did a roadworthy for QLD plates my mechanic said that that was still kosher as long as the webbing was ok. Those belts stayed on her until 2006, when I changed em for the new ones. Hardly notice that they are not the originals.

Here is the Quickfit website. Doesn't work that well but if the examples I could see in the flash are anything to go by they may be even closer. I hate to think what they would set you back when landed.

The site link is www.quickfitsbs.co.uk or ...com cant remember, but in any case, it keeps saying "under construction" and there's no information. The ad in C&SC has more info and pics of the belts, which look terrific.
See if I can find more.

I'd say they might even sell some if they fixed the web site.

And you want to trust you life to these people ? Do they pass Australian standards, that is what you need to consider before getting a set of belts from OS.
My belts are good and look the part, ok the lock section is black and not steel coloured, big deal, the webbing is spot on and belt changes are acceptable in any event because it is a safety issue.

Seatbelts for Spider - Retractable ?
Whilst we're on seatbelts for 105 Alfa's, has anyone tried fitting retractable style belts to a series 2 spider.
I know that around 1980 they fitted them in USA. I had a 1974 Fiat 124 Coupe which I undertand had the retractable belts fitted in Australia as an optional extra - they worked very well & a real neat fit too.
I'm all for maintaining the authenticity of the model but when the boss wants to drive the car as well, they expect some modern touches & ease of use. With a convertible, those lap & sash belts can be so awkward & always seem to be in the wrong spot that it's sometimes an effort to find them & put them on properly - then there's the readjusting every time someone else has driven the car.
Has anyone had a go or an opinion?.

I got the following from http://www.hemco.com.au/seatbelts.html to fit the Siuper:
-New inertia reels for the front, plus fitting hardware (brown webbing, black buckles).
-fitting kits to install the lap sash belts from the front into the rear (including bolts and nut-plates).
-new centre lap-only belt plus fitting hardware.
To be fully compliant, the upper mount of the rear belts should be secured through the C-pillar using a supplied 'barrel' bolt. I chose not to do this and have secured mine through the parcel shelf.
