Problem solved or shameless product placement

Ok guys, I found something today that I am sure we would all find handy at some point. As you know I have just started the strip down of the 1750. I am tagging, shooting and bagging every single Item that is "bagable".

I am using a mixture of zip lock bags to bag all my 1750's goodies. I am using primarily Hercules Brand Click Zip bags(270mm x330 mm) for larger items like tail lights assembly, and a for medium sized items I use Glad(180mm X170mm)or Multix Slider (200mmx180mm) and Coles generic, snap seal (150mm X 90mm) for smaller bits like nuts and bolts.

Last night I had a problem, I needed really large zip lock bags for long or large items, such as the Chrome strips on the boot and the sunvisors. The largest bag I had was the Hercules Click Zip, which will not fit either of these Items.

Well today I went to Officeworks and found what I reckon might be the largest Snap seal/zip lock type bag on the market here in OZ. The bag is 400 mm x 355 mm, come in a pack of 100 and sell for $9.99. The package has green writing on it. "Value Pak large resealable bags QTY 100 Size 400x355mm"

Well worth a look for those big trim items or parts that wil not strip down further . Ok the seal is not as good as the food grade bags but who cares you part is safe and you can always stable it if you are paranoid. Problem solved.

I usually use zip locks too because they're so convenient. One warning though, they're not that great for long term projects. Any oil on the parts at all (none of that on an Alfa, right?) causes the bags to deteriorate and split. Even for short term use be sure that the bags are stored in a plastic container or a cardboard box with a well-taped bottom.

Iam also using desicant bags in the zip lock bags to keep moisture out, this is Queensland after all and when the rain comes back so will the humidity.

Guys, buy a decent hand-held heat sealer and purchase a roll of heavy duty platic 'tube'. This allows you to make a sealed bag of any length and the plastic itself is a lot thicker and more oil resistant.

You can also use it to vac pac marinated meats for camping.

Yeah I am thinking that too. But these bags are a good size. Anyone know where to get desicant bags ?

I had another idea, until I get a hold of a parts catalogue for a 1750 from the archives, I am printing out the various pages from Classic alfas catalogue and using them to describe what I tag and bag, because lets face it, I don't know about anyone else but I can't ID every single Trim part or rubber thingamy jig that I take off the car, better to have the right name than not, especially for replacing. Life will be easier with the factory parts catalogue, in the meantime this is the path I am taking.

Iam going to wrap my seats in old flannel bed sheets which you can buy by the bag for 50 bucks from Lifeline or the Salvos. Then try to bag them to protect them even further. Just yesterday bought 4 crates from Bunnings at $8.95 each for part storage. I thought about shelves but this will be more cost effective and safer. Also I can grade and store parts by type i.e. lighting in one crate and log that on the spread sheet .

You lot all seem to go to a lot of trouble... Or is it just me who will strip a car in the carport & leave everything sitting outside?

I'm kidding

It lives on the garage floor of course
