When Alfa Romeo bulit the series 2 1750, the thing they achieved best was saving money. They are great seats and they support well AND they're comfortable on a long trip, the only real flaw with them is that they're very HEAVY! The seat design that started in the S2 and basically made its way into the Alfetta GT was cheaper and more practical, but less robust and far less sexy.

No, there's no basket weave which is a bit sad but the patina of age and use stays with the car nicely in a way which no synthetic can emulate. IT was an option, and my car was ordered that way by the general manager of Hindamarsh Motors in Adelaide for his own use, but the car ended up a demo and he took a Berlina.

Then Volvo put seats designed by a chiropractic into their Amazon and someone at Alfa thought they where cute and they copied them for the 1750 S2 and 2000 GTV's (I think the look only, not the healthiness), but still, both versions of the Alfa seats look good in my opinion and even more so in leather. My seats where getting a bit "lived in" about 10 years ago, so when I did a general overhaul of my car, I had them deep cleaned and re nourished with all sorts of waxes and creams and they came up like new.
Maybe we should start a thread "how to keep your Alfa beautiful, but use it at the same time", then Ben can accuse me of having the dirtiest Borranis ever

OK besides the seats what else ? I just looked at the s1 brochure and the S2 Brochure. I can't see it myself. Yes I will admit you have the cooler seats literally and there is something about the cleaner lines of an s1 bumper, but I don't see where they cut costs, I only see improvements. Ok the interiors are virtually Identical, the S1 has better door cards, but I think the s1 steering wheel boss looks cheap compared with the S2 wooden example.

On the dash, the S2 had a Rear Demister so we got that big red button, but otherwise they are the same inside.

Mechanically we got a second brake booster and all s2 (euro spec) have the black cylinder style air cleaner an upgrade that started half way through the life of the S1.

The other differences are cosmetic really, I don't mind having an indicator light on the front guard (at least its not like the relectors that the yanks got) and tail lights and front indicator lights are 6 of one .....

At the end of the day the 1750 s1 or s2 still represents the zenith of alfa 105 coupe design.

Initially I wanted a s1 preferably in Giallo Ochre, but when I had great difficulty finding one, I went for the next coolest thing which is what I own today. No regrets.

Dont you be starting a war here Mr Phil Seriously the stepfront was the true and original design until they started on the smooth-it-out crap!

Just remembering that this is the "alfas for sale" thread and was wondering if any of you have noticed just how many coupes are coming out of the woodwork at the moment! Giulia sedans are rarely offered for sale which to me says they have either rusted away or are in the hands of an alfa lover. I reckon this may affect their price in years to come as they truly are a cool car

i still reckon the later junior is the pick of them
clean external lines
and does away with the plastic clad plywood insert centre consoul
that got a little worse in a 2000
add a 2.0ltr upgrade
and its kind of like a poor mans gta - raw and cool

Late junior, I hope you don't mean the one with the 2000 trim but cheap seats, that thing is nasty and thankfully never came to Australia. I like the centre consoul only on the 1750, the 2000 is not that great but the best dash by far is the one that started on the 1750 and was also used on the junior. I know what you mean about the Junior interior, very cool, but I can't stand the cheap seats, I would have to change that, oh and the cheap plastic wheel, can't be doing with that. I do like the clean lines of the single headlights on the late juniors too. Here are some interior shots of that Olive Green metallic junior on ebay you will see what I am getting at. Compared to the seats in my GTV same colour these are woefull. Actually I didn't know Juniors had head rest seats in them, this must be a very late Junior for OZ. I bet it has 2000 style gauges.

It is all a question of tastes which of the 105's looks best and each should be looked in the context of the time it was built. Early stepnoses had probably the purest lines, the way Giugiaro penned them, but they where let down by their cheap cardboard dashes (nice instruments though). The late 60's 1750 was revamped in true GT style, the lines smoothened and had the most beautiful dash of all 105's. The 1972 GTV was a tribute to "modern" times with a space agey dash, which actually looks better with the factory aircon fitted.
So each of those cars has its one virtues and I love them all and have owned at one stage or other most of them (GTA and AM are still missing). Personally I really love my 2000, it is a comfortable great reliable touring car that still keeps up and looks better then a lot of modern cars and lets face it, what else can you buy for 25k, a Holden Astra or a Hyundai? I stick to my GTV, thanks

I just don't think the seats in later 105s are comfortable. The seats in my GTV 2000 are flat, unsupportive, and aren't adjustable enough for me to get comfortable. They might look OK, but when it comes to performing the intended function of a seat, they're total rubbish! If I didn't want to keep the car original I'd replace them in an instant.

I'm hoping the Berlina seats will be a lot better. But I'm probably spoiled having done so many long trips in the 306 I had. You could drive from Melbourne to Brisbane, and get out of the car feeling great. If I drive the GTV for more than an hour or so I'm half crippled when I get out.

Phil - Not a french car person? You need to drive a few! In my experience, just as with Alfas, people who aren't into French cars have never driven them.

As much as I love my Alfas, my 306 S16 would have eaten them for breakfast on a twisty road. And if you've never driven a 205 GTi then you're really missing out on something special. They must surely be the greatest handling front wheel drive car there's ever been and probably ever will be. I've seen them take corners at speeds that defy all logic. With the exception of the supercars, I doubt there's a car in existence that could outrun a 205GTi on a mountain road.

the peugeot has passive rear steering, just like alfasud,
which will match the pug for handling
and peugeot seats are the best in the world for "all sponge" chair like seats

the 74 junior im looking at has a loose spring which goes up your "culo"
and the backrest stopper misses which means the seat tilts a chyropractic crooked
but you sit nice and low in a true raw sports car

I happen to own a Green and Tan 1750 GTV and think it is a cool colour scheme and I know plenty who agree with me. Resale Red is too predictible for me and have passed on 105s before because they were in RED, normally red was not the original colour of the specific car anyway, which to my mind drops the value considerably. Here endith the lesson.
