Blue Slip inspection in Sydney?
Hi people,
Does anyone know of an authorized blue slip inspection place in Sydney that is particularly Alfa friendly? Inner West area of Sydney is best.
Also what is actually required to pass a Blue Slip inspection?
Cheers
Adam

Its just a pink slip with an identity check I think. Unlike with a pink slip now, you need to bring a prior rego paper or something that shows the numbers. I've found blue slips pretty painless ...

Thanks what I was wondering about.
My car hasn't been registered for numerous years and I don't have any official paperwork. Only a reciept for purchase. (which I wouldn't have a hope in hell of finding right now.

Shire, the purchase receipt is what you're going to need and if this is the car you came across in the carpark (unless I'm thinking of another user) you may have some difficulty as it needs to be signed over by the last registered owner??
Here's the RTA page that is relevant to have ownership transferred to the new owner...
As mentioned by Frye, the blue slip is just a pink with identification numbers verified. Now called AUVIS (Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station) $55.
Proof of registration entitlement

At any stage of this legalising for the road process do they try and add a modern VIN plate?
Thanks
Pete

No, hopefully your Alfa isn't too old Pete to have VIN and Compliance plates. A new plate will only be issued if one isn't allready affixed to the vehicle. In any case there should be chassis/engine numbers apparent for identification purposes. Failing this, you'll have issues as the questions of who, what, where and when will be asked. The car will then perhaps need police examination and a special police chassis/engine number stamped onto it if nothing suspicious is found. Do you have an AR without compliance plates?

My car has never been registered in Australia before and does not have the ugly VIN plate ... and I'd really prefer that it never has one.
I've owned it for 25 years and have the New Zealand ownership papers still so no ownership issues. The car is a 1971.
What are the compliance plates? I'm pretty sure the same model was sold in NZ as in Australia.
Thanks
Pete

Pete, to the best of my knowledge (and I might be wrong), compliance plate issues shouldn't be a problem for 105s, as the plating of cars didn't occur until the mid/late 70's in Aus. I recally my series 1 '76 Alfetta sedan and GT both had these but my '73 Berlina didn't, nor did (I think from memory) my '74 Fiat 130 sedan. The actual plate is a small alumunium plate rived to the engine bay (normally) which provides a range of details regarding the car and its specifications etc.
Compliance plating relates to the testing of cars to ensure they meet Commonwealth legislation regarding emissions and safety standards, and relates back to either the manufacturing of cars here in Aus and/or officially imported vehicles.
The reason some cars couldn't be imported into Aus, was because they couldnt meet the required standards, and/or the manufacture didn't consider the Aus market worthwhile to invest in ensuring such cars could meet the standards. Not quite sure though how the grey import market gets around that aspect.

I would imagine since my car is exactly the same as what was sold in Australia in 1971 I will not have a problem .
Thanks
Pete

Correct, I can't see any logical reason why not.
Better still as you have the ownership papers, that should also avoid any other potential issues.

Pete, from what your saying, you should be right. I can't imagine the RTA will defile your motor mate. You'd be able to get a definate answer from a local inspection station or check through the RTA website. I only had a quick look when I came across this thread. As mentioned by other replys, there are plenty of vintage vehicles without these plates (pre-ADR's), and I believe they're only issued at time of import for the manufactred year. I'd be interested to see how you go, as I'll be facing this dilemma in a couple of years time when I complete a current project I have.

So... I have actually been to the RTA and spoken to them.
Blue Slip inspection from an authorized inspection place.
Green Slip
Even without my reciept I can complete a Statutory Decloration with appropriate details etc.. as proof of purchase / ownership. (I have found my reciept for the car... I was far more anal and careful than I thought. )
Registration Process.
Cheers

I have a friend in Penrith who runs a tight ship with inspections. Loves Alfas.
Get in touch with Steve from Abel Auto Repair. You can book online through Repco Authorised Service too.
If you need any other info on Pink and Blue slips etc. They have info on em too. I needed my alfa inspected for registration here in SA. Bought my baby in NSW. Steve told me to check out the Repco site for details for SA. Was then able to book after too which helped.
Here's some more info on em if needed. If not then it's all good!
