Where did you place your stereo head unit?
I just bought a new Kenwood AM/FM/CD Head unit and am at a roadblock on where to put it.
I wired it up temporarily and the lighting makes it look super import-tuner so I'm considering the Glove box.
The in-dash is out because I don't want to:
1)highlight the ricer style faceplate
2)cut gaping holes in the dash.
So, where have you placed your head unit, other than in the dash?

Completely installed now, unit went in the glove box, rear speakers under the hat shelf and front speakers under the dash, mounted to the firewall.

You didn't have any speaker holes in the outer kick panel area of the footwells just in front of the doors? (something like 5 1/4" if they are present)
A bit late now I know, but just curious more than anything.

No, the unit went in the glove box (and looks quite good in it), the front speakers went up behind the dashboard, and the rears got mounted in holes under the hat shelf. So the car looks completely stock.

Cool.
And a nice feeling of comfort knowing that generally people won't try to steal what they can't see to begin with.

Stereo placement
I'm trying to figure out how to set my stereo in my 69 Spider withoughout making a single hole in the body. Would like not to see the equipment and modify the car.
Can you post pictures of your set up ?
I would like to put an amp in back and plug in an Ipod directly to it. I have an old radio in the dash that I want to keep for looks so I'm trying not to add another head unit.
Thanks
Roland

Pas de problème.
Si je me souviens de le faire, je vais avoir leur place cet après-midi ou plus tard ce soir.
(No problem.
If I remember to do it, I'll have them up this afternoon or later tonight.)

Merci !
Merci !
Here is a photo (in dash of car) of the radio that was given to me for xmas (by ex girlfriend - what a sweetheart).
It is an brand new "old" remanufactured radio. It is only Mono (of course). It has an Ipod input (mono output). I wondered if a speaker attached to it would sound loud enough (I assume not but haven't tried).
I was thinking of plugging it into high level inputs on a small amp (for a little listening power).
Plug an Ipod directly into amp (to be able to listen to my CD collection while crusing along the french coast with mademoiselle at sunset :-)...).
Build a little wooden speaker box and place it at the passenger footwell under the dash.
Build a wooden speaker box and place it behind the seats on the transmission tunnel (make it small and black - non visible) or against the back "wall" under the spider top (when folded)....or to the side behind the seat but I assume we would have a hard time hearing it (seat blocking, wind etc...).
Was planning on putting 6x9 if possible or else 61/2".
Last I put a picture of my trip a few weeks ago to Marseille. My friend just bought the new Fiat 500. Cute car. Thought I'd share.

Park
Aaaaarrrrrggggg !! I know ! It took forever to inch it in.
The problem with my Spider is it is very low (maybe unusually so ? not sure) and kept catching (central mufler) on the cement step up (badly done driveway angle) coming in. Took me 10 or 12 minutes to get it in (did want to leave it over night outside. Marseille isnt known for its theftless attitude.
But it was all worth the beautiful drive in the morning sun along the coastline up towards provence (sorry for tooting the french horn but south of France is incredible Spider driving grounds... see pics).
If any of you are ever in the area totaly look me up. I'll take you for a ride :-)
Roland
note: i added a pic taken through the windshield as I'm reaching Paris in the rain.. Kind of like it.

As I was stiripping out the interior of my GTV I notices that the side panels next to the back seats and beind the front seats would be a great place to put a couple fo 5 or 6 inch round speakers, coupled with the six by nines on the rear deck should make for so pretty good sound. I'm also struggling with where to put the radio, don't even really need one, just a pre amp with mp3 player imput and amp.

Here are some shots of a dash install on a 74 GTV that I did last year. XM radio and head unit, ipod connection in the center console, speakers on the rear parcel shelf.
Cheers,
Jeff
