Montery "stuff" 2005

Hi - I'm starting to plan summer, and haven't been to the Monterey events for long enough time that I don't know the details that would help plan the trip. Looks like the Concorso Italiano is a biggie this year - but - does AROSC get a corral, or what - and is the luncheon there a good thing or a waste of money? What days are the best at Laguna Seca to see the Alfas run?
Thanks!!!
- Judy

Hi Judy,

Monterey is a very big deal now, so finding a room is also a very big deal. Concorso is a must but AROSC doesn't have a corral there. The best bet it to enter your car. That gives you a nice place to park, plus the driver and one passenger entry fee are included. Just get there very, very early to avoid the long line getting in. As for the races, buy your tickets through ARA. They have corral parking at the track, at least they have in the past. Saturday is mostly pre-war cars, Sunday is mostly post war, so it just depends on which Alfas you prefer to see in motion. Then again, I guess you could stay for both days.

Hi Judy;

Lots of things going on.
In addition to Bruce's advice on concorso registration and tickets for the historics (including corral) you might want to consider some of the following:
1 - James Treadwell from Delta Sierra usually arranges a block of rooms at the Laurels Inn in Salinas. I'm checking with him now and will put the info in the next issue of "Alfacionada".
2 - There are a number of caravans going up. We usually join the one that Ken Howell (Maserati Bi turbo) starts in San Diego early Thurs. There is also a group that leaves on Wed and spends the night around Cambria.
3 - We have a Thurs night (around 7:30) dinner in Carmel (this year at a pasta restaurant).
4 - We will bring a picnic lunch with some very old grape juice that we just have to get rid of to the Concorso. We have found this better than the line for so so quality buffet or box lunch.
5 - If ARA host an apres show cocktail party like last year, I would recommend it. You can spend time with some nice people while the roads clear.
6 - If your going to be in the Alfa corral at the Historics on Sat., plan on leaving to spending late Sat afternoon on the veranda of the West and Maggie Clark home. One of the great Alfisti gatherings.
7 - Alfa Romeo is the feature marque at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Eligance. Only $100 a head to get in - unless they raise it again.
All of the above information and more will be covered in excrutiating detail in the upcoming issues of Alfacionada.
You can exhale now.
