AROSC at Willow Springs Jan 8th-9th
The Alfa Romeo Owners Club of So. Ca is returning to Willow Springs Raceway for the first Time Trial / Race Weekend of the year on January 8th & 9th.
This will be the " First Annual Charlie Thieriot Memorial Competition" and we have already been contacted by a number of senior Time Trialers and Competition Racers that will dust off their Nomex and put some wheels on the track in Charlie's Memory .
For those of you who don't know, Charlie was one of the founders and at times provided the blood to develop what has become known as one of the finest club competition and driving school programs in the country.
There will be 3 Time Trial run groups, a mixed class Race Group and the first race of the annual Alfa Cup Championship series for 2005. The 'Novice' Time Trial group (drivers without a AROSC approved competition license) must attend classroom sessions before each run session . Check it all out at www.arosc.org. (General competition info is posted, but event specific will not be up for a few days.)
If you've never had a car on the track, AROSC offers an Intro Course for $20 per day that will provide you with class room instruction and nearly an hour of lead and follow around the track during lunchtime. Instructors will take relatively small groups of cars around the track increasing the lap time by 1/2 to 1 second per lap. After each lap the Instructor will wave off the car immediately behind so that every one will get a chance to drive the correct line as nearly as possible. Most any daily driver will qualify . Check out www.arosc.org for specifics.

When will the entry forms be availible? For on reason or another, I missed all of the 2004 events, and need to get my car on the track before I get to depressed and lose interest in the sport.

Geeeezzz Gif, we sure wouldn't want to see you lose interest. Seriously, we'd love to see you at the track in January. The mailers should be ready within a few days assuming all goes as planned. Are you on the list to receive one by email?

We can use the mailer at the shop for emergencies. You've seen me in action when new people show up. Poor souls.

Bruce, there was a "yahoo" group setup several months ago for AROSC competition notices and I registered for it, but nothing has ever been posted to it as far as I know. And as for emails, I got one earlier this year, I believe it was for the Laguna race.

Giff;
You should still be on our active mail list. You can email Terry Watson - slaysman@ol.com to confirm and/or email your address to phyllis3@aol.com and she'll make sure you get one.

in-car Timing System question
Hi BB'ers...
In October I came out to the track and saw some in-car timing systems...
what were they? I need some details so I can make sure Santa knows
exactly what to get. From what I gather, there is some transmitter box
that is set trackside on some frequency and then the in-car device is set
to match that frequency and receive the blip to do a timestamp???
Details? websites? recommendations? caveats?
Thanks!

Hi Judy,
You are talking about the Hot Lap Timers. You set one up in your car and then put the transmitter on the pit wall. It gets picked up by an infared signal. Here is where you can get it:
http://www.plavanracing.com/ultralapindex.htm
Get in contact with Chad and tell him I told you about them. He's a cool guy and will answer whatever question you may have. I really like mine because I know if an on or off my regular pace and I can try different things each lap and see if they help of not with my times.

Who's going?
I'm not ready yet but will be soon. I'll be trying a couple of changes (put in a new fuel pump and lowered the front end about 3/4") in the hopes of picking up a second or two. So who else is going to be there?

I'm bringing my race tires but I'm also bringing a set of aggressive street tires to use if it's really wet. I have windshield wipers but I know that some don't. I think they rely on something like RainX to shift the water. Wet tracks are a great equalizer. Maybe this weekend will be more a test of driving skill than car performance. Actually, the more I think about it, the more fun it sounds!

Alfa club like the Postal Service
Neither rain, sleet, nor snow.....
Actually, Charlie did throw the red flag when you couldn't see any
of the white cars coming out of turn 9 at Riverside because of SNOW...
I'll be there. Maybe the rain will clean the car off....
