I'll be there if the VARA school at Buttonwillow Raceway is cancelled due to the 5 being closed thanks to snow.

I'm counting on it cleaning my car as well. And tonight I'm drilling a couple drain holes in my Kirkey seat so I won't have to sit in standing water.
This should be fun!

What an equalizer this could be for my underpowered, over suspended blue brick.

You guys may call me a wimp, a wienie, or something worse, but with the impending bad weather this weekend and my vary limitted experience, 2.5 hours in my Alfa, and no wet track experience, and me with only slicks, and in the interest of safety not just for myself and my car, but for the rest of you, I will not be participating this weekend at Willow Springs as originally planned. For those that do attend, please be safe as one of these days I WILL be out there with you.

Giff,
I would feel very guilty if I advised you to come and you had an uncomfortable time, but consider that if you do Novice Time Trial, you'll get plenty of Classroom, have an instructor take you for a few laps, then sit with you until your comfortable, get back in whenever you want and you go at your pace.
We have clearly defined passing zones and if someone is behind you they're either going to wait for a zone or pull off to get some running room. Safety is first to last.
The wet is actually a good learning environment and everyone will help.

Thanks Norm, but I think I'll wait for another weekend. At the present time I had only planned to do the TT's only, get some time in the car, and try the race group later on. But the idea of someone riding along sounds good, if only I had a second seat in the car, I'll look into it.

The Riverside event Judy refers to was in the years of rain for AROSC TT. It seemed it rained every other event for a couple of years. We found that Rain-X worked great on keeping the rain clearing from the windscreen. No wipers required. Helped to have a defroster too.
(hey, Tony A-Z told us he kept the inside windscreen of his Ferrari clean at LeMans by usnig a potato rubbed on the glass. Also had to punch drain holes to keep from drowning too)
I remember Riverside as snow up in Turn 6 and clearing sky in Turn 9, but that was back in the '80s and Judy was only 16 back then.
Giff, too bad you can't get hold of some treaded tires. If you have the Kuhmo, Yoko, Hosier DOT tires you will have enough traction to learn a whole bunch about driving. Your track speeds greatly slow down but you simulate going warp speed.
Anyway, look forward to seeing you in Feb at School.

Conditions at 8:56 am, Friday: light snow! ( www.willowspringsraceway.com)
I suppose the intro group takes place no matter what, right?
In the rare event, how do you notify participants of cancellations? Email?

Winter Driving Tips
Hey a little help from you folks in cold countries.
What type of studded tires work best on a road course???
Hey, show up if you can get through the closed roads.
I'm gonna show up to run Intro, rain, shine, sleet, snow. Will make a great story to tell years down the line. "yea, I remember the time back in '05 . . . )
This would be the 2nd time in my 18 years that snow was involved with a So Cal event!!!!

Just a very quick note before I hit the road, we will run this event unless the track is washed out, flooded or otherwise unsafe. Basically, if the Willow Springs track management says the track is open, we will be on it.

Bruce, Paul, or someone,
Does the track have some indoor facilities for visitors? My 2 year old is crazy about cars, particular Alfas :-), and loves to watch auto racing on TV. So, I was planning on my wife and him coming along, so that he could see it live. However, with the current forecasts I won't unless the track has some form of indoor facilities.

Jes, Budwesier Balcony is a great place to watch from at Willow Springs. It's a two story building with lots of windowsn loacted at the highest point of the track. I use to watch races from up there when I was a little kid.

The Snack bar is probably your best bet. Out of the rain, and they have a TV.
I'm not sure the Balcony would be open for a little group like AROSC.
Call the track to be sure.
Not sure if I would bring "civilians" on a weekend like this.
