New guy, but old love for the GTV
Hi all. I just wanted to properly introduce myself here in the boards. I didn't know where to stick this thread so you guys/gals will have to suffer through my intro.
I won't get into my personal life, but I will tell you a little bit about my history with cars.
I don't own a GTV yet, but hopefully I will really soon. I've always wanted a GTV and I think my time to own one is drawing near. I can sense it in my radar. I've flirted with BMW 2002's, a BMW 320i, and a '75 Firebird, but I still remember when I feel in love with the little GTV. It might've been the Ferrari style wheels, or the bright red paint job, or the four round headlights ( I have a thing for round headlights! ), but hopefully soon, I will have one to call my own.
So, do you remember the first time you fell in love with an Alfa Romeo?
Also, does anyone know anyone in Southern California that's selling a '74 GTV ( or similar style...I'll get the lingo here real soon, so please bare with me. ) that's priced right for a late-bloomin', college bound student?
Nice to meet you all and I hope to stay for awhile.
-Ham

Welcome to the AlfaBB. If you're just getting started, might I suggest that you attend the AROSC upcoming track event at Willow Springs Raceway this weekend, and meet and talk face to face with some of the AROSC member. Everyone that I've meet has been vary helpfull since I bought my GTV.
Here's a link to the thread about the event. If you come out don't be shy about introducing yourself. http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/arosc-alfa-romeo-owners-club-southern-california/34223-willow-springs-tt-race-jan-13-14-2007-a.html

Wow! My first post and I'm already invited to attend an event. I'll try my best to make it. I may be a new owner of a GTV this weekend so we'll see how that pans out. Thanks geh458.

Welcome new guy
Attention: AROSC sales pitch follows
Ham,
Another good way to meet a bunch of Alfisti would be the end of month luncheon Sunday Jan 28 around noon. At a nice restaurant, Luigi's, in the SouthBay.
We will dig up some electronic form of this to get you directions.
I definately recommend the track this weekend. That is where the "competition" part of our club hangs out.
The meeting is the place where you can meet the "social" part of the club (Some of the same people, except the social group tends to bathe more often and have cleaner hands) (I am a member of both groups, some of us clean up real nice).
Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Well, as of today, I am officially the proud owner of a '74 GTV 2000. It's a little rough, but two days of daydreaming about it took its toll on me. It was wearing me down! So how can I resist being swallowed by that green snake?
I'll post up pictures this weekend. I'm going to need your guys' help as I'm going to have a lot of questions.
There's a bassy hum coming from the rear end area and I'm guessing it's either the wheel bearings or rear diff. Would take it up to Willow Springs to show it off ( not much to look at right now ), but not right now.
Some things that need immediate attention is that rear end sound, a rear pax window, and a small clutch hose leak coming from around a coupler ( near the flywheel area- I'll get the terms down later. ). Can anyone recommend any places here in the south land to score some used parts?
Thanks for your patience with my newness.
Sidewaysalfa- Luigi's sounds good. Let me know!
geh458- Willow Springs sounds awesome and I may ride up there on my bike to watch and shoot the breeze, but my Saturday will be full ( changing out rotors/pads/struts on my BMW and cleaning the GTV )

Where are you located Mr. Ham? I'm sure there are some Alfabb'ers who live near by and would be willing to help figure out what's wrong with your ride.

I'm actually located near Santa Monica. My time to work on the car is limited to weekends, and as much as I trust myself to do my own work, for some of the work, I may be forced to leave it at a shop. I'm still doing my homework and research to learn about the quirks and greater potential of my GTV. So far, so fun!
Here are the pictures that I promised. What do you guys suggest I do with the front? A new front clip or try to get it repaired?
