Buttonwillow Event, Oct 24-25 2009
Who's ready for the Buttonwillow event in October (24 & 25) ?
We are hoping to be ready with our Datsun 240Z. We're still putting it back together. We replaced all the suspension bushings (polyurethane), springs and shocks. Still have a few loose-ends to finish up.
I've only driven on Buttonwillow once and really enjoyed the track. I'm looking forward to it again.

I would like to organize a 116/transaxle group meet at Buttonwillow. The weather should be nice. And Buttonwillow is right in the middle of SoCal and NorCal.
Ask CChan to come along. I will create a new post.

75evo,
Great idea!
116/transaxle is very hard core. I am taking it easy with my 69 GTV.
I will invite CChan to come along. Thanks for organizing this. We Norcal folks should do more fun events like this ;-)

DE group for Buttonwillow
We will have our DE (Driver Ed) group again.
Requirements:
a car, a helmet and some $$.
Convertibles with roll bar only. Cars with auto roll bars (Porsche, etc) on a case by case basis.
No 5/6 point belts required.
At Willow Sp we had an instructor for each student.
Pass the word.

I have run every track in SoCal but not Button Willow. What are the faster speeds people are hitting? Is Willow the big track equal to Button Willow in top speed. The reason being is that the faster I go the different car configurations I use. At Willow I'm pushing 140 some parts need to be removed from the car or they might remove themselves at that speed!

Scott,
I don't what kind of car you're driving, but IMO Buttonwillow is not a high speed track like WSIR, it tighter. When I had my GTV I was turning 2:12's at BW on a class record of something around 2:05. If I were you, I'd take a look at the AROSC webpage toward the bottom of the righthand column, and look at the class records and the event results for BW for your type of car.

I'm pretty sure this is the track configuration we used. #13 run clockwise with 19 turns, about 3 miles long. You can build up some good speed on the back straight and the right-hand sweeper. For the most part, it works your brakes and shifting skills. It has a little bit of everything in a challenging track, a chicane, a decreasing radiance, an off camber turn, a hairpin at the end of a straight, and my favorite: a blind turn just after a hill while the car is unweighted.

Thanks for the reply!
This looks like a fantastic layout and not too fast, I am guessing I will top out at ~128 MPH, perfect for me and the car. I really dont like high speed tracks such as California Speedway and the ROVAL I hit 140 and that is just a little to serious for me, (maybe Im getting old?) so anything around 120ish top speed is very comfortable.
Thanks again!

The several AROSC TTs I've run at BW have used the dogleg on the back straight, not the bus stop. My mostly stock 2000 GTV hits 105ish just before Riverside.

This is Track 14. I'm starting to think it was this layout that I drove three years ago.

140mph @ big willow? i bet it isnt an alfa...lol
my first time running backwards at button im doing 2:14's laps and shifting into 5th z-car (130? plus in a z-car?) on the #26 CCW configuration with the longest (drag strip) straight minus lost hill into a wicket fast riverside left hander. hairy but real exhilarating. button is great fun and pretty technical backwards with all the decreasing radius corners.
both big willow and button are nice drivers tracks... much faster and better than streets imo.
here's some laptimes, cars, tires and hp for comparisons reference with your car.
have fun out there...
