Has Alfa Club considered running 25CW? It's exactly like 14 CW with the full back straightaway except it uses the second second hairpin as opposed to the first that leads into the esses. It makes that straightaway after the 2nd hill a little bit longer, giving the time trial group a big straight for point bys. I ran this with VARA a few weeks ago and loved it. See you all there

That's a good point Jorge. How about creating a new category for best lap time during a race?

I can live with that. As it stands now, the TT/race combo costs $125 more than race alone.

If the club runs the traditional 14a CW then comparative laptimes over time can be had if that is of value.

This concept has been discussed extensively already here on the AlfaBB (sorry, I don't have a link readily at hand). Some liked the idea, others didn't, but the conclusion was not to do it.

I have two questions unrelated to the track configuration:
1. Even though we have transponders we still need car numbers, right?
2. I do tech inspections. What needs to be checked on DE car? Same overall mechanical check as TT (but no comp belts or fire extinguisher needed), plus helmet and gloves? Are gloves even needed?
Thanks
Andrew

It's the same as Street Performance at Driving Schools.

When will we know the configuration? I need to figure out what gearing to use.

In the old days when Charlie Thieriot ran the program he didn't want broadcast the track configuration ahead of time because he didn't want people setting their cars up specifically for the configuration and gaining an advantage. I don't know what Bruce's philosophy is. But there are really only two things that might change--bus stop vs no bus stop, and hairpin vs no hairpin. My money is on us running the same configuration we've long run--no bus stop, and no hairpin but it's not my call. I don't think there's any chance we will run counter clockwise, we've lost too many cars that way.

This reminds me of a question I have been wanting to ask but just have not got around to until now. It seems every track has a corner or a couple corners that like to "collect" cars. What are the "gotcha" corners at Button Willow considering the Alfa Club will run its standard course layout.

I will use 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear.
Sorry, Anthony, I couldn't resist.
Honestly I rather you not know, since I have a stock box and no chance to fit a shorter 5th.
But if you can adjust your car for the right track, so be it. I am all for the advancement of the sport. You'll be 4 seconds faster than me, instead of just 3.

Here's my take: The most likely way to ball up a car at Buttonwillow is to go off the outside of the track after entering the front straight, staying on the power and totally losing it on getting a front wheel back on the pavement. One wheel on the pavement and three in the dirt means a spin if the power is on and the end point is frequently the hot pits wall. Fourtunately, the track has placed tire barriers along the wall so damage is likely to be less severe than in the past.
AROSC lost three cars to this while running CCW one time so some of our group feel CCW is a less safe direction. However, other clubs have had the same basic problem when running CW and claim that's the less safe direction. Whichever the direction, getting the car totally back under control and easing it back on track solves the problem.
The second potential problem is going over what the track refers to as "Phil Hill" (the man made hump on the west side of the track). If the car isn't turned enough before reaching the crest, the car may exit the track on the outside of the corner and it may roll. Fortunately, this seems to be a fairly uncommon mistake.
