Yesterday morning (Saturday) was in a friend's car heading south on the Merritt Parkway when I saw a red S4 on the other side heading north. Guesstimate of time would be maybe 9:30 or so, and probably somewhere between Darien and Westport, maybe a bit farther north. Anyone here?

Yesterday morning (Wednesday), Route 1 in Clinton, I exchanged toots with a red S3; I'm presuming it was AlfaCat? (And Tuesday morning it was absurdly warm here; it's unheard of for me to have my top down on November 27, but I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity. Very strange to be tooling down the road with my purple Santa hat flailing in the breeze. I wonder if I can get a top-down day in December?)

You must also have or feel that you have royal blood....or it's a statement about your feelings/issues and Christmas...?

"or it's a statement about your feelings/issues and Christmas...?"
Cheryl, if you knew Bob, it's more likely the only one he has ... more accurately, a Santa's helper hat.

I have never seen a purple Santa hat or elves hat....only red with white fur. Since I'm the queen of purple things, many kid me about the first statement, royal blood -- couldn't pass it up.
Maybe, some day I'll meet Bob, although, I don't drive the roads back east often; parking and driving in Cambridge and Boston was enough for me, let alone New York City.
Back to regular programming since I've/we've hijacked this thread.

Many of the early depictions of Santa showed him wearing other than red, often green or purple. I couldn't find a purple one, so I made it (and it's a lot better than the store-bought ones).

Cheryl, we've actually been within a few feet of one another at the New Hampshire convention, where you were in the booth. I already had a copy of the new book, though (well, the old one, too); I probably should have stopped and expressed my appreciation for all the work Pat put into them, but you looked like you were busy enough at the time.
(And FWIW, I don't drive in either Boston or NYC; public transportation saves a lot of agita in those cities.)

I collect Children's Christmas Books and some other generic Christmas books but had really not paid much attention to the different colors. I'll have to look and see if I have any of that era. Thanks.

The New Hampshire Convention is and was kind of a blur; my first convention back in Alfadom since Pat's death. I was pretty heavily protected, escorted, managed etc. by the publisher and Pat's long-time friends, so I don't remember a lot except, of course, the somewhat negative aspects: falling down a flight of stairs outside the banquet room and having a few tell me in not too kind of words what they thought of my late husband. I'm sorry, I was signing books as fast as I could, I probably would not have remembered even if you'd stopped and said "Hi." It was a stressful time for me rather than the "fun" and "relaxation" I had anticipated. Some of it due to delivery delays and some of it just the "eastern" atmosphere. I have more than confused a few people at that time, whom I thought I had straight.
I did not fly directly home, I needed some time to recoup and stayed with friends for a week before returning home. It was good for all of us -- I was able to talk to people that really understood the enormous pressure I was under and what I had been through while they got to understand exactly what happened as far as Pat's death, how it would affect me, and the ultimate relationship with the club. A win/win situation.
How about Chicago? Or the next time the convention is on the east coast...stop me and say "Hi." Detroit was a wonderful experience for me; I'm not really sure how much of Detroit being my home chapter was responsible for the ease and pleasure.

They might have been more in Christmas cards, but I just did a quick net search (as much as I could here at work) and all I found were red . . . not sure where I saw the other colors now!
I'm writing a children's book for my five-year-old son, and if I actually manage to get it finished there will be a sequel with a visit to the North Pole. I should include the vintage Santa there.

I can't possibly know, nor do I care to know, the issues others had, but let me give you the flip side. I only "knew" Pat through his writing. As an Alfa newbie, I was rebuilding my engine, and while I probably would have gotten it rebuilt anyway, his Bible certainly greased the ways and made things much, much easier. I know he didn't intend it as a shop manual, but I referred to it constantly. Perhaps an overlooked aspect of the book is that through his sheer enthusiasm and in pointing out distinctly Alfa-esque aspects, it helped me, and I'm sure others, get into an Alfa mindset that was the right place to be when looking at a mechanical issue later. Between the Bible and the very generous assistance of several AlfaBB members, I successfully rebuilt my engine (without falling into any of the pitfalls that aren't detailed in "proper" shop manuals), and for that I'm eternally grateful.

Will do, for sure. I haven't made it to a convention since New Hampshire, and my domestic life is in disarray right now, to say the least, but once the dust settles I'm hoping to get to more of them.
