Travel tips for Gloucester, MA ?

Fellow Alfisti! I'm traveling to the Boston area for the wkend and was hoping to pick up some info on the Gloucester area. I hope to be in Gloucester mid-day thursday, check out the maritime museum and just generally drive/walk around and see the sights. Figured I'd wing it and scope out accomodations on arrival. Friday afternoon I will drive to Westwood (staying@ the Fairfield Inn, Dedham) and spend Fri and Sat afternoon enjoying my neice's christening. But I'll definately have to breakaway for some local fun! Is the F1 cart track still there? If you see this Milano going by, It's ME , flag me over! Thanks Joe

If you enjoy seafood there are a bunch of places to stop on Route 133. The two I can think of off the top of my head are:

Woodmans in Essex

The Clam Box in Ipswich

Yes, F1 Boston is still there (in Braintree)

Papa G, thanks!, I do like seafood and am going to put those suggestions in my notebook

Giorgio, I'd definately meet up! I have to be in church Saturday a.m. because I am the Godfather but can meet up any other time during the wkend. The weather may be iffy due to a Hurricane offshore but that's just a minor distraction right? I'll PM you my cell #, Joe

The Clam Box is awesome definitely go if you have the chance.
Stop by on your way back to NY if you have the chance, I'll have a glass of vino waiting for you.

What's the deal with the Milano, is it yours???

The Clam Box for sure. http://www.ipswichma.com/clambox/ Avoid it around two in the afternoon as they change the oil around that time and it slows things down for twenty minutes or so. Post a meeting place and time. Maybe an impromptu cruise! We can only hope the weather is as nice as last weekend.

John, I'm heading back sometime Sun. afternoon. PM me your # again. Maybe I can tie it in w/ the ferry. Weather will determine if I drive around or not.

InTune, I'm leaving work (Bronx) at 7am. I hope to be in the Boston area by11. How long up to Gloucester, another hour? So I guess I'll look for the ClamBox first and fill up, then head into town. cell # is 516-978-5634, Joe

Joe,

The best thing would be Saturday afternoon after 3:00pm a good place would be Burlington mall lot in Burlington MA, its right off the highway and everyone is familiar with the mall.
Hope its not raining, forecast seems rain for Saturday.
If anyone else has a better place or idea I am up for anything.
Maybe we should title this, "Alfa meeting in Boston area" so people will know.

Giorgio

Whereabouts in the lot are you guys planning to be? I don't yet know what my schedule is, but I'll show if I can.

Joe,

Take 128/95 north from westwood and Burlington Mall is off 128, take the exit#32B bear right go under the bridge before the 2nd traffic lights make a right that's the mall, you won't miss it anyway, propably the best place to meet would be at sears parking lot.
Bill2000 that should be easy for you!!!

Hey, you guys are planning to meet in my neighborhood - I'm less than 5 minutes from there ! Of course I'll try to show up if it works out!

Burlington Mall is currently under construction (they tore down Filene and is expanding that section now). So situation might be a little messy over there. When approaching the mall entrance (coming off the highway), there are 2 entrances before the traffic light (Barnes & Noble is across the street on the left). Take the 2nd entrance (the 1st will lead you to Macy area). At the bottom of the ramp, turn left. Sears will be on your right. Depending on how busy the mall is, it might be easy to find some open space in the left hand side lot (away from the mall building).

Joe, just want to mention a couple places to stop when you drive around Gloucester. Most people knows and will stop at Rockport harbor. Parking might be a little bit difficult around there. Another place is at Pigeon Cove (if you drive around the Rt.127 loop). We accidentally came upon this place last time we were there. It is a state park and the area was a granite quarry. It is a nice place to take a walk - there's the water filled quarry, rocks (lots) and ocean view.
