not to the theme from 'House' (totally forgot about that pespective); rather to
the 'original version' BUT THAT WILL DO. [at least it was figured out by a trans-

As Cheryl mentioned, in June 2007 the moderators disclosed that they were having to subsidize the BB at a rate of $400+ per month. This is the post by Anthony, when people protested the first google ads that appeared on the BB.

As far as how far we've come along in a year, it isn't too difficult to gauge. Go to the main page of the BB, then scroll to the bottom and click on "View Forum Leaders". This will provide you with the list of members who have subscribed to the BB, since the subscriptions were instituted about 6 months ago. (Yes, these were added on top of the google ads, because the BB was still heavily in the red. A search will provide you with the threads and discussions.) You will notice that there are 100 members subscribed at a "platinum" level and 97 at a "gold" level. That is a total of $6940, which is just not enough to run a BB of this size, much less make it profitable, and certainly doesn't make up for several years of running in the red.

A few months ago, while Simon was away with his family, the BB had a problem and so it was down for almost a week. When one looks at that situation and also at Simon's posts that often happen at the wee hours of the morning, one realizes that at the current revenue level there just aren't enough $$ to hire an administrator. Thus, Simon does all the work on the BB. It would be really nice, if people would subscribe to the BB or simply send in a donation every year and help pay for this site.

Best regards,

Another way to help the BB, and to clean off much needed shelf space, is to put something up on the BB Yard Sale thread. Click here for the latest offering.

Ed:

The song was released in 1998 on the album Mezzanine. It wasn't that the question was too easy, remember what I do for a living and that I do read much of the bb and pay attention to the personalities, likes, and dislikes etc....I was willing to search out the facts to make Simon $100.

BTW, thank you for your continuing generous offer to match any new subscriptions. I know that Simon appreciates it as do some of the rest of us bbers, who understand what Simon puts into keeping the bb up and running for all of us.

Let me make myself absolutely clear - I am not looking for a free ride here! I understand $$ is needed to run this bulletin board. I am also not against Google adds however...Medicine is for the patient - profits will follow later...one should never let go of the main purpose for people visiting this board.

This is what I get...

I have to scroll down before I can see topics...

This has nothing to do with advertisement and or funding the AlfaBB...it is pure SPAM. In your face - no way to avoid it. Never seen it like this in all those years surfing the internet...

This is what I see using Firefox and some additional extensions. I've painted out my non-subject specific open tabs and standing services on my tool bars; and not so neatly, I'll add.

I guess we are all different... I don't see the large google ad panel as irritating or SPAM, nor do I think it is unreasonable to have to scroll down to see topics... And I do know that if every BB member had simply sent in $1 (one dollar) per year, we would never have seen any ads (or "SPAM") on the BB. Bottom line, it really is a financial issue for the BB...

Best regards,

Ok I have just subscribed and donated USD 20.00. At least we get something positive out of this discussion.

I wonder if the current advertisement campaign is very effective...how many of our member are clicking on the adds? And I mean because they are interested, not because they want to help the AlfaBB. Most of the adds I am being presented are way out of scope...like the Cadilac one in my screenshot.
