Hi Rags747
Just 3 words : so few people loved that car so much in the snow ! With my first convertible I was living (upstate) New York and any time I could I would take the Corvair in the snow just for the immense pleasure it would give me in the snow !
I love also the Biturbo ! My first maseratis were 3500 GT 1960 (2 of them) and a 1961 (all 3 at the same time !)
May everyone have a super week and week-end like it looks ,like we are going to have here in Southern California (probably above 100°)

I owned a 1963 two-door Corvair....
As far as a wonderful California weekend at 100 degrees, I'd try and find some place air-conditioned or a place where it's snowing. Not my cup of tea.....

I miss my 67 Corvair Corsa, it was my first car ever. My dad was looking for a cheap car to keep me out of his Nova's and Impala's so he picked up a fairly clean on for like $400. I drove it for four or five years I think.

I always wanted a Corvair Spider, 66 or newer. One day maybe, they are not that expensive from what I remember.

I told my dad that as soon as he gets bored with his Toyota I'd trade it in for a 164S or Spider.
But for now he still needs the four doors.

You know there is one thing we may have forgotten in this whole discussion. Europe and other parts of the world received the 164 in 1987 right, the U.S. in 1991 so maybe in those four years any mechanical gripes and gremlins were worked out and what we here know and love is not the same product that was originally introduced overseas. Just food for thought.

Alfatango YOU ARE RIGHT !
that is a big difference.
The bad 1987 cars and introduction killed it for us over there
Thanks for that very important remark

I think we have a chance to make this thread a competitor to the Changing Subject within the Thread one. What do you think?
I think 64 Corvairs were ugly but 65-66 were a super body design. The turbo versions were hot rockets.

The very first models of virtually any product can be problematic. Anyway, it looks like international relations are restored now and we can all relax. It has been an interesting discussion.

I agree 100%. 87-89 164's where terrible. But starting in 1990/1 (in Us) where not so bad. I agree for the most part the problems where resolved. I think that the original 164 forum that has now gone dead was a great source to repairing the typical problems still being experienced, we found fixes for everything and now most of us that have been around awhile know these fixes, replacements...whatever that make these cars much better and more fun to experience.
I agree. lets keep it going. Corvairs where pretty Ugly IMO. well maybe some where just Ok. Not my cup o tea!
Claude, you have to explain the minivan thing for us? I just don't understand that one at all??
Although the 89 XJS is one of my favorite cars. Except I prefer the models that kept the round headlamps...like a Jaguar (MKI,III). I agree with you there Simon Templaton! (one of my favorite shows too)
Talk about unreliable.
Almost as bad as My fathers 56' Austin Healey 100M. Broke every 6 minutes and no parts to be found back 30 year ago. We worked on that thing all the time, but once you got in and drove it, it was like a dream. British racing green...what a great 4 cyl. and style.

Hi
The minivan is for going to garage sales mainly.
Now teh V12 jag is a superlatively reliable and powerful engine.
Back in 1973 we took a V12 sedan (carburator V12) and we chopped the back of it to make a tow truck out of it. unfortunately I do not have any picks of that contarption. But it did the job superbly speciamlly to tow in the BMW's, the MG's and other cars.
I was GM of a huge dealership on the East Coast (Jaguar, BMW, Alfa Romeo, MG, Triumph, Lotus, Jensen Healey, Morris and a few more).

Yes, it is a great powerful engine but you seem to forget all the other things surrounding it, you know all the electrical stuff. Although it may be semi-reliable. haha! I would say that car is just as reliable as the 164 is. Tow truck huh, sounds like the 164/saab limo they made on Top Gear. LOL! Pulling MGs and Bmw's, makes perfect sense to me.
