Murray,

Did you son tell you if the light was on "all the time" or if it went away as he revved the engine?

Personally, I would advise your son to drive the car to the AMTRAK depot and put the car on the auto train up to NYC or Philadelphia. There are several reputable mechanics in the NE that can help.

If he does want to drive it, I would start by going to the local parts store and get a volt meter to check the status of the charging system. That way you will know just how much pain and hurt you are in for.

I hope the helps.

Cheers
Martin.

Thanks Martin my son is just as much an Alfisti as me and we'll get that sucker home on her own power. The alternator light came on last night with the load of lighting etc.but is off today with accessories off. He'll get a VOM and check it out before venturing further.

ARDEN Thank you for the very generous offer ! Fortunately the charging system has been behaving itself today and he made it up to Savannah (stopped overnight by bad weather).Today he'll head for NJ.and then hopefully home.Once again thanks ,you're a true gentleman.

No thanks necessary. As an ALFA owner, BB member and fellow Canadian it was the least I could offer. I wish him good luck. I drove my spider back from LA last year so I can empathize with your son. It will be a journey to remember.

If he's coming through Ky. We always have a spot and tools. (I-65)
