Enough is enough!
I am getting rid of this piece of cr*p I have lost count, how many times my 147 has been in for repairs.Yesterday the driver side window suddenly fell into the door.Today I took the inner-panel off and found the plastic slider has broken and the plastic pulleys are worn out!
It is understandable if it is an old car, mine is 2 years old!
My '76 Spider just keeps on going with no quality problems.
Word of advice to US members, when the new Alfa arrives in the US stay away from the 147.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. It may be comforting to know that my model of VW Jetta (Jetta IV) also has crapy plastic pieces in the window mechanism. When they break, the windo can fall into the door as well. I was lucky when mine gave out, the window was stuck in the closed position.

Wouldn't touch it. It's the 8C or nothing for me.

Ford and Chevy have been using a simular plastic block for decades now without too much issue. Mabe some kind of custom fabbed retro-fit would be of use? (of course it could be the track it rides in doing the damage rather than the block itself being faulty)
Still, having one let go in 2 years would make me think more along the lines of 'freak of nature' rather than 'design flaw' unless it was really common, in which case I'd imagine there would be a recall notice about it.

My Golf had both front windows fall into the door. Once in the rain. Nice. The first time around my clips were replaced with more 'revised' cheap plastic. The second time around VW had swapped them for aluminum pieces. They were out of stock because so many people needed them that the dealer fitted a custom stick to my door to keep the window up while we waited. In any case the aluminum pieces were much more confidence-inspiring. Hopefully Alfa will do the same thing but without the stick.

e46 3-series BMW's are notorious for having window regulator problems among other things. Point is I don't believe any car company is immune.

VeeDub had some savagely bad build quality for a while. I had an oil cooler housing break off while spinning an oil filter off! I don't know firsthand, but have heard some negative stuff about some recent models (see topgear episode where they test GTA).

I once had a car where the gear shift lever actually fell through the floor. I looked down and could see the road through the hole where the shifter used to live !! The car only had about 30,000 miles at the time.

uh, I think it's not just the window issue. Garry-Graig, what other issues have you had with your 147? This will be good for us to ponder here in the US as we await Alfa's return in 2009 then 2010 then 2011 then...

Perhaps that's why the prices of older cars has taken a bit of a jump? You can work with metal.
I had some plastic jacketed intake cooler device crack on a 5.7L GM and it sucked in all kinds of radiator fluid right down the throat. Billows of white smoke. Did $1000 in damage and was a recognized weak spot with upgraded replacement part (still plastic). Mechanic knew exactly what it was over the phone. No recalls; just pain. Just love GM.
