I understand that, in theory, the AlfaBB gets pennies for every click, but the ads are worthless? No one makes stuff for our cars!

I could understand if they were ads from known alfa parts retailers. Have a look at the ARA magazine. That's what it should be like. We have someone dedicated to marketing.

The Alfa parts people don't really need to advertise. It's not like there are many out there.
Lose the Google ads, they look tacky and I doubt anyone is clicking on them!

I don't mind if it helps with the cost of admin. One suggestion. Put a link to hot Italian girls standing next to Alfa's and you'll get plenty of clicks from me! Oops... Did I really type that??

Until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed. I have this real keen sense of tuning out things that I don't use or don't need; it's called focus as in every single tree -- forest, what's that? So as far as I was concerned that was dead white space that I never read and obviously still don't. If it doesn't flash, jingle, and dance, it's lost on getting my attention.

You certainly did....and I'm sure all the participants on the "Italian Women" thread or is that "thread bare" will join you.

Only time, and the number of clicks, will tell if there is any value to this... Personally, I feel that when ads are just dropped into a post, it is not appealing and becomes a real turn-off, but I'm sure others don't feel the same way...
Best regards,

Yep, I agree on all points. Couldn't have said it better, really.

The real annoying ones for me are the blinking boxes that fly up in the middle of what you're doing or reading.....I have pop-up blocker enabled on both IE and Firefox so I don't have to put up with those. I have to go in and manually unblock it to read PMs, go to my e-mail, use AIM etc.

This is not a popular Idea
I personally do not like it and that seems to be the consensus!

I don't like it. I would rather pay a membership that have to deal with pop ups and unwanted ad's in the post. Did I mention I don't like it???

Sorry if you guys are finding the new adds obtrusive. During the next few weeks Ill be trying a few different variations and ad placements. Feel free to comment about them here.
I’ve really been struggling with finding a way to create some revenue from the site to help support it. As I’ve said many times before I have never wanted the site to be a PAY to see the content type of site. So alternatively I have to find ways to just support the site to keep it turned on. While I do appreciate donations they are far too few and in between to keep things rolling. The other thing about donations is it always seems to be the same few people trying to keep this boat a float. Hardly fair considering how many people and businesses are using this resource daily.
I have tried to offer advertising to all the major Alfa suppliers & businesses but they just don't get the web thing and would rather spend their dollars in publications that are a fraction of our online distribution. To me it makes no sense but that’s how it is. Without their support its kind of hard to create an all Alfa Romeo related advertising program. I just don’t get why they wouldn’t want to advertise directly to their customers and build their Alfa Romeo brands with the exposure.
At one time I tried to open an online store to help support the site and got nothing but flack over this. This is a great model that seems to be working for many other auto forum sites. Unfortunately many of the BB’ers had a different take on this and the online store was put on stand by while other avenues (advertising) were taken. After many hours in development I took the resistance as a bit of a slap in the face. I think most people failed to see the larger picture.
The basic nuts and bolts is that the site is barely supporting itself let alone have any budget for creating better content or features. Any of you smart people out there please feel free to comment here or by PM any ideas you might have to help turn things around.
In the mean time please be patient with the ads while I try to find something that works for all of us.
