Need new rims, or, has this ever happened to you?
Looking to get new rims for my 67 duetto, maybe something stronger. Have a few sets of turbinas I can borrow off the 74 or 78 niki lauda, but they don’t look right on the 67, and the 15x4.5 set laying around is as old as the ones already on her and I’m thinking maybe this time new instead of old.
I’ve been looking at this thread: What Kinda Wheels Does Your Alfa Have? .
And this one for tires: GTV Tires (sorry, again) and may go with the falken. Any thoughts? |

I've had it happen 2x on other vehicles over the years.
Usually it's the net result of (1) overtorquing the lugs and making hairline fractures in the center section, and/or (2) whacking a kerb or the like while in a bit of a drift or cornering hard, and/or (3) tires with WAY too much lateral grip for the torsional strength of the wheel center section.
Way far outside extenuating circumstances could also include outright metal fatigue if the wheel has been put though some severe paces for most of its life (like a zillion autocrosses, or years of weekend backroad scratching), loss of temper due to heat cycles from the brakes (mabe even overheated brakes, or possibly a brake fire), or poor metalurgical alloy that finally showed up after X years.

for those of you not logged in, the photo you are missing is that of a broken rim that came completely free of any bolts attaching it to the car. this was last weekend at the moonshine rally (a very great event) in the twisty roads of north carolina.
i was behind a 308 ferrari enjoying the twist and turns and beautifully exhaust tone of our itailians, when during a sweeping uphill right hand turn a 'thumping' noise began, and just as i was straightening up out of the turn Wham!!
all steering is gone
i am now a passenger in the drivers seat as i slide with horrible scrapping sounds across wet asphalt and off to the right onto the wet grass
and of course heading directly toward a road sign.
had it happened a second sooner, i'm sure i would have gone straight thru the curve and down the embankment on the other side, a much bigger ouch!
several participants, and of course all the alfas, stopped to offer assistance, but i sent them on, after all, it was a timed event and at that time the hub cap was hiding the hole in the rim ,and i was thinking something in the suspension failed with little that could be done to get her running again, but to keep the road clear for everyone coming around the blind curve.
cell phones and aaa gold plus are wonderful inventions!

Wow! You'll need longer than the original studs on a 67 to make the Turbinas fit. May as well change from LH to RH thread on the left side while you're at it. BWA sportstars will fit without changing the studs but they're harder to find. Gotta see that video!
