1989 Spider Veloce - RPM trouble help!!!!

I own a 1989 spider veloce quad. 4 cylinder two seater...and recently took it out of storage been a few years, had a mechanic not an alpha mech. specialist do some minor work on it.... replace the fuel tank, replace fuel sending pump and secondary fuel pump, engine sounded fine, ran it for a day and a half then bam...lost rpms and could not shift out of 2nd gear.

Had a flat body tow truck tow it to the same mechanic an hour later after tilting it off and sitting for 2 hours I said what the heck let's see. I cranked the engine and it ran again for about 10 minutes beautifully then again the loss of any rpms and puttering till the engine cut out.

Anyone have any clue as to what is causing this? Think it could be a computer sensor problem? Also recommend anyone who can look at it in Toronto area that doesn't cost an arm or leg?

Is there a new fuel filter in there somewhere?

Hey thanks for such a prompt response... I just called the mechanic and left a message....when last I spoke I'm pretty sure that he put in a new fuel filter.

It is really weird...it was up and running for a day and a half then suddenly it could not rev up enough rpms to get into 3rd gear.

As a background I had it sitting for 2 years and now have enough to get it back up and running. The check engine sign has come on then off he told me and I saw it also when I first ran it a few days ago.

This mech. thought it was the fuel sending unit and secondary pump so we replaced that, cleaned out the fuel pump and now this problem occurs...

thanks for brain storming for me Jeff much appreciated.

He actually took it out today for a spin then again the same thing no rpms etc.

Hi Reg,

There is no need to do this. You will find that this BB is very helpful, and that all you need to do is post a technical issue in a technical forum. You may also want to a search, to see if other threads that discuss these type of issues can provide you with some further insight.
