Alfa 156 Engine Noise

Hi All

I have always loved Alfas and decided to take the plunge last month and picked up a lovely 2002 156 JTS Lusso 2.0.

I was always warned and given the horror stories but hey what do you expect from an Italian car!

I do however have a problem that I would like some advice on. I have recently noticed that the engine noise has changed from a lovely purr to what I can only describe as sounding a little like an electric car. I have no idea what this could be and my local garage said it might be the fan belt.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?? Performance hasn't been compromised it is just the irritating noise and just a frustration.

Any ideas would be appreciated!!!
