VVT Spider Owners...Want more power instantly?

Are you in love with your cars looks and disgusted with the power like I was? I spent thousands of dollars on a total rebuild including, perfomance cams and springs, huge K&N Filter, Borgo 10:1 pistions, and on. After all was said and done on the engine I was still dissappointed, that is until I unplugged the V. V. T. Man what a difference! the car pulls strong now, before it would rev up fast to 2000 RPM and go flat all the way from there. My guess is that the motronic was retarding the timing and fuel because it thought it was hearing a knock. The alfa 4 cylinder is very noisy......So give this a try it might work for you....or maybe it wont.......But it made a world of difference on my 91 spider.

I don't think the Motronic on the S4 Spiders include a knock sensor. You are actually losing power with the VVT disconnected and are basically using the "idle" cam setting used to pass emissions....

hmmmm possible V V T failure?

You know I'm not really sure my spider has a knock sensor, but I just thought all motronics did. Could be a possible failure of the V V T system, but what ever it is, on my car, when I disconnect the plug, that little baby pulls, it feels like it has 15 to 20 more hp.

Nowadays most EFI cars have knock sensors but the earlier Motronics used them mostly for turbo applications. If the Alfa engine has one, its located on the side of the engine and is generally plastic-coated...I'm pretty sure the S4s don't have them. The new ones probably do but most of us will never see one anytime soon!

As for your VVT, its possible it is malfunctioning...when you connect it, does the plunger extend immediately at IDLE RPM? It shouldn't...and that could cause poor running at low power settings.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm......
