mounting stopwatches on dashes..!

I didn't really know where to post this, as its not really "off topic", but I need some advice.

I have a period mechanical stopwatch that I want to mount to the dash of my series 1 1750, and I would really like to know if those lovely mounting plates with the lugs are easily available. I've never seen any for sale independantly of the watches.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge on the subject? I'd love to hear.

Ben

There are some mounting plates available, but they're usually specific to particular watches, eg Heuer Monte Carlo, Hanhart etc, and they're usually very pricey! Google it and you'll find them. I know the Dutton Direct website in Aus has some, but be sure to be sitting down when you see the price!

I've got a couple of hanhart watches I'm mounting on my GTV's dash, but I know a metal fabricator guru so he's going to make up a plate for me. I'm mounting mine in place of the aftermarket radio, so I'll get the plate made to attach using the existing cut-outs for the radio knobs.

The middle of the GTV dash doesn't have a lot of clearance, as the top of the dash overhangs about a cm. If the watches sat pretty flush the crown would touch the top of the dash. So I'll probably mount the plate on a piece of timber and stain it to match the dash, otherwise the mounting plate would need to be about half an inch thick!

I want to get mine mounted in the next few weeks, so if I get it done before you do yours, I'll post some pics.

Damien

Damien, that would be good. The thought of having a plate mounted has crossed my mind, I mean a nicely finished piece of alloy, with a couple of lugs and a pair of grub screws with dull points would do the trick. If I dont put it in the 1750, I might put it in the 2002 - but I wanted a black Heuer for that car if I could find one.
