I suppose I ought to be "Bucephala" (named after Alexander the Great's famous charger) since that's the slightly pretentious pet name I have for my car, albeit in the feminine form (this one is definitely a woman ...). But like Gordon above me, I blame my name on a couple of people and a baptismal ceremony sometime in late 1973 ....
Alex.

I kept showing up at local BMW events with my Alfa and pretty soon they started referring to me as "Alfa Eric". Pretty soon, I started using that on a few other forums. I considered switching to BMWEric for here but decided to just stick with it since it wasn't already taken... Plus before I signed up here (lurking), there were a couple anti-BMW threads. I figured it was safer to not mention the BMW at first.

It is an amalgam of my two old cars: the ‘57 Sprint & the ‘64 GTC. At times, I wonder, should I have made it SuperSprintSpiderGTCGTV? Or SuperGTCSprintGTVSpider? Hmmmm..... soon, my mind wanders to other, less complicated thoughts.

"Chi Si Dici"
Common phrase used by Sicilians when greeting friends. "what's going on". Some of you will recognize it if you are familiar with the movie "Goodfellas".

My screen name then should have been "Quand'è che mi darà indietro i soldi che le ho prestato?"
or "When are you going to pay back the money I lent you?

Well, I'm afraid I have to state that in proper Italian it would be 'Che si dice?'
Ah, I guess I don't need to explain so much about my nick. I've long been wanting a Bertone GTV 2000 when I was a boy, and indeed I bought one as my first car, and still own it today.

Whitethorn is the English translation for Biancospino, Alfas name for a white paint (AR013) offered in the late 60's. This was the color I was going to paint our 68 GTV but have since decided to go back to the cars original color; Giallo Ochre (AR109).
I have a thing for white GTVs so it figures that of the three we currently own, none are white. Perhaps one of these days....

Caro GTV2000, as I stated, "Chi Si Dici" is a Sicilian phrase - not a proper Italian phrase. For your info., a Sicilian would answer you by saying "che Minchia dici" in lieu of "che cazzo dici" in another region.

Mine's just the GTV's license plate number. Means absolutely nothing, just the number the state assigned. My Healey is KBM720 since I registered two cars at the same time I got sequential numbers.

AAAhhh... since the first post I thought Laverda was some sort of slang for a woman's bottom that I wasn't familiar with....
But you're right, there IS a motorcycle in that picture!!!!
Oooooooo....
So anyway, my nickname: Waaaay back in '92, The Beginning of College, I was immediately assaulted with the task of choosing a login name for the school UNIX system (which doubled as my email address, back when all of 3.14 people had internet access). I happened to be reading an old fantasy series called Thieve's World at the time, where One Thumb was a central character who ran a bar by the name of The Vulgar Unicorn. A family-oriented tavern, where murders and assassinations were common and a properly asked question could get you any sort of illegal substance you desired. Yes, my kind of place!!! So, lacking for a better idea and feeling the pressure of the moment (and also not wanting to be just like everyone else and use my initials or name or some combination thereof), I chose 'onethumb' as my login. It sorta stuck, and has been my email and/or login ever since. Not many people actually read those books, so generally the reference goes unnoticed, but it remains my little tribute to a favorite series of books.
Interestingly enough, this post prompted me to do a google search on my login....apparently there is another person out there who uses it on a regular basis, associated with a web-based company who has a blog and whatnot.
Well, so much for being original, huh...

Too late to change now, I suppose...I guess I'll just have to share!

Unbelievable The same reason I picked my screen name.
Actually, the first car forum I joined had to do with my daily driver which had, you guessed it, relative to the year of the vehicle. Now I wished I had read "thieves World" or some other exotic book so I had a better story.
