I hope this is a misunderstanding. I've done business with Jim over the years and have never been burned. Further, he's done a *lot* for the Alfa community.
Is there a possibility your order got lost in the confusion of a move?
It's not good that you're still waiting on your stuff, but it's also kind of harsh to tarnish somebody's reputation in public.
I hope you and he can work it out..

2 sides to every story plus I have no confidence when someone sets the tone like was done here. Sounds like BS to me

Like Brian, I too have known Jim Stack for many years (decades in fact) and suspect this is some sort of misunderstanding and hope it can be worked out. As far as I know Jim's reputation is impeccable.
Mulato might want to change his tone and try and contact Jim directly, if he has in fact moved, at I'm guessing "Besic Motorsports" (Google it), not "Basic Motor Sports".
Regards
Ken

I too find this hard to believe. Jim has shown himself to be way too nice of a guy for this to be true.

Hold on here!
Jim Steck's business is AutoComponenti, Besic Motorsports is run by Mike Besic.
These two people have collaborated on the Bonneville Land Speed Record car, but as far as I know they are completely separate businesses.

This personal issue doesn't belong on the BB
I think that all members deserve our support, and certainly "mulato" is no exception, but I would appeal to "mulato" to re-consider these kinds of posts...
First, this is not "Alfa Romeo History". Second, as it has been pointed out, there are always two sides to every story. Third, I believe that personal issues should be dealt with away from the BB. Fourth, The BB has nothing to do with this transaction, and I don't see the value in continuing to use the BB to report on "the real truth and will keep you guys posted next week with the outcome".
I sincerely hope that "mulato" is able to resolve his personal issue.
Best regards to all,

I second Enrique's post.
If this was true of Steck, then Papajam is a Columbian drug runner, Roadtrip is a polygamist pimp and runs a house of ill repute in South Dakota, and I wear a big poodle dress, red lipstick, ruby slippers, and go by the name of Flo.
This kind of personal business doesn't need to be aired out on the Alfabb. Steck is a very busy man. Alfas are his hobby, not his business. The true shame of all of this is that you made a decision to drag someone through the mud on the Alfabb. And honestly, I don't believe that you have sent numerous emails and phone calls since February without response. I believe you are exhaggerating the time frame. FBI....please. Lets play nice, please!
Best Regards,
John M

Scams from Jim Steck
I will be the first to admit that I can't possibly know every Alfisti or every Alfa supplier and the personalities involved worldwide on any particular issue or transaction. However, I believe that there is meant to be and should be a point of balance; the Alfa community, in general, and the bb are composed of willing people that want to help others with Alfa issues the majority of the time. And with that comes some responsibility both on the part of the poster and the reader. The poster must temper what he considers a bad experience with a vendor and really think about if he was truly burned, a mistake was made, or that both sides simply couldn't come to an equitable resolution before posting potentially libelous information. The reader on the other hand, has a responsibility to use some common sense in reading what has been posted based on tone, facts, and conditions presented and draw some conclusion from the posted information and his own experience.
In the spirit of helping others, it would be inappropriate to not make others aware of potential problems with vendors that have not supplied ordered product, refused to issue refunds or acknowledge a problem, not replaced items received damaged etc. But once again this cannot be based on one isolated incident, but some kind of trend or several having the same experience; not just outright vendor bashing. I believe in one vendors case on another digest, a trend has certainly been indicated based on various people's experience with a particular vendor and it would be inappropriate to not make that known.
The problem can be exacerbated by language difficulties which are inherent in a forum like this because English is not all of our first language, the contingencies come forward and start name calling and defending their region of the world, etc. and before you know it we have a thread very similar to one a few months back where the name calling, accusations, and sarcasm should have been taken off board long before the moderators attempted to step in, and even as a result of moderator intervention the posts continued for some time.
In this particular case, I don't know all of the parties involved in the transaction or that have posted, but I certainly know enough of them to draw my own conclusion on balance and where my opinion falls regarding this incident.
