What kind of tensioner is your 12v V6 running?
Tell the truth now, just what kind of tensioner do you have installed on your Alfa 12v V6 engine?

Well, I voted Oil Less modified. But its fixed. Only uses the oil spring to set the tension when you adjust it every 15,000.
I think if I had to do it all over, I'd rebuild the oil filled. I had absolutely no problems with it when i changed it out with the belt due the leakage scare. Why not just rebuild the oil filled everyother belt change like changing out the water pump every other belt change?

I may do that Richard on one of my spares as I have a OEM factory kit in stock. Point of info too is that 24v tensioner bearing pulley the same as one for oil fed unit but you have to press 24v bearing off 24v inner pivot piece and do same with old 12v center pivot piece and then press 24v bearing onto 12v unit.

I wonder how good the seal would be around the oil supply hole. Mine and yours too I suspect was drilled, tapped and plugged for the mechanical tensioner. Even if I can get the plug out, which is in with Locktite, the hole is bigger than original.

I don't have one of these cars, but as an engineer, I prefer a mechanical to a hydraulic device.

If need be we could remove plug, drill hole in it and reinstall it couldn't we? I used removeable blue loctite if you used red it maybe hard to remove.

How could an intelligent engineer, or even a non intelligent engineer exist without "one of these." Are you sure yor an engineer? You'd better show us your credentials.

Shame on you the bulletin calls for red. I used red one time on an aircraft hydraulic filter module (called for in factory manual) but it is a bear to remove parts later on.
I guess if it won't come out you could drill through plug in place with grease on drill bit to capture filings and use vacumm cleaner to suck out hole afterwards.

Why not just drill out the hole and use a helicoil??

The hole is just an open return oil passage (no threads in it before mod) when oil fed tensioner installed. What Richard is concerned about is, since it has been drilled out a bit, will the backing plate 60507320 and O-ring 60513407 that lays in backing plate hole still seal return oil flow from outside world.
Oh by the way seal kit number is 60777065.
Another more major problem for the people who have mechnical tensioner installed is finding all the pieces that goes with oil fed tensioner especially the hollow bolt 60539559 that you need to convert back to oil fed set up.

Depends on who done what to engine. You will need to pull wheel, fender liner, bottom and rear lower timing belt covers to see tensioner.

I can understand the problem folks face when they want to get it "back to factory specs", which was imperfect to begin with. I doubt Milanos, GTV6's or 164's will be put on pedestals like the 6C2300 so why bother? The hydraulic tensioner - sans the hydraulic | |
