I wouldn't want to work at all in the new car industry ... it's hardly a growth and positive outlook.
My father has worked for an Alfa Romeo dealership in the past and many others and very few are good to work for (I mean waranty claims, discussing issues with the parent company, etc. ... not the actual dealership) ... Mercedes was one, cause they listen and have an attitude of improving their products ... most of the others are just moving stock and could not give 2 stuffs if a customer is having trouble, etc.
The other thing is I could not sell an Alfa Romeo to most people ... most do not understand them. It would be far easier (and thus $'s rewarding) to sell Toyota's or GM/Ford, etc. ... as you have a far wider customer range.
Pete
ps: And to be quite honest ... er, Alfa Romeos are hardly built well. As much as I love my GTV there are horrible design features, etc. all over the car and the welding and general lack of quality is appalling. And Suds/33, etc. were no better. And I've discussed 156's with a panel beater friend and they are discussed as tinfoil cars

Be warned though, Alfas can have a strange effect on owners; ‘Alfaholic’ a recognised condition among car enthusiasts

I would consider it. In my job, there is alot of burn out. I would seriously consider the move if the salary/benefits were as good or better, plus a car/expense account. I wouldn't mind being a district rep.
Many years ago, I wanted and applied for a job with ARI in El Segundo to work in the advertising/customer rep dept. I didn't get the job, I think for one I didn't speak any Italian . My feelings were that I had some vision, but after looking at what the PR was doing, I didn't feel like I lost alot.
I tried selling Alfa's for a while, but there was so little floor traffic that I wound up on the losing end because the pay was on a draw system.

Follow up question- lets concentrate on the group that could work on the car- would you be willing to move to Michigan?
Alfa would have to offer me a lot, since I'm rather golden handcuffed by F. It might be interesting, that's true.

Who says they would open a facility in Michigan? Unless they are planning on doing any engineering in the states, I could just as easily see them opening a design studio out here in southern California, just like every other major manufacturer has done...
Actually, Hyundai/Kia has opened a major engineering center here too....it used to be good to be close to your suppliers, but with technology it is not as necessary. If Alfa were smart (and had any reason to open a technical/design office here), they would use the west coast--easier to attract talent, in touch with new trends in design, and the car culture here is second only to Detroit (and not by much..).

Dean Case, who is leaving/has left Nissan would be good for Alfa. Pat Braden worked for Hyundai in OC for quite a few years before his passing

I would not be willing to move to some place with real crapy weather. NY, NJ, and MI just get to dang cold.
14 years ago Ford offerd my brother a job designing a new line of car stereos for them. He would in no way move to MI for half pay and poor weather.
