Another Alfa Romeo auction result

Here in Phoenix at RM Auction, a nicely restored 1969 Spider Duetto sold for $28,600.... This occurred Saturday.

I was at the RM auction, and frankly that 69 Spider did not impress me that much. It was a nice car, and nothing was fatally wrong with it, but there was nothing special about it. I think Classic Showcase (who do gorgeous Jaguar restorations) did an "auction restoration" on it and it showed. The stainless bumpers were dull, it had these ugly stick on body moldings on the sides, the fasteners holding the tail lights on had corrosion on them, etc. The car just did not have the visual "pop" the way a really top level, fresh restoration would.

Again, a decent car, but not something that would win the National AROC concours for example.

I would defer to Mr. Leskin as I only saw the vehicle in pictures, not in person.

Yeah, the car looked nice in the photos, but if you really started looking at the details it fell short. Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of us would be ashamed to be seen driving this particular car, but for that sort of premium money I would expect a bit more.

Scary thing is that my wife is starting to look at cars in the same anal way I do.
