Will Alfa-Romeo Return to the States?
There are rumors the Alfa firm will return to the States. The 1980s and '90s saw the loss of Triumphs, Lotuses, MGs, Fiats, and other once-proud European marques. Alfa-Romeo is still hitting the cover of European magazines. There is still a following. The auto market is diverse with South Korean, American, Japanese, German, Swedish, and British machines, why not see middle-class Italian motor machines, too? Has anyone heard anything about Alfa-Romeo's future in the USA (if any)? What products are you eager to see come Stateside? Lotus made a welcome return with the Elise and the upcoming Exige.

I saw a little blurb on the Alfa site that says they are coming to the US in 2007.
That doesn't mean it will happen but we can only hope.

Which one? The 8C Competizione or the Brera Spider? The 8C hasn't gotten the green light for production and probably won't, the Brera will be around 45,000 Euros. No word on whether they'll sell it here or not, or the price, but my guess is north of $50,000.

Do you think that the 149 would make it to the U.S Shores?

IF Alfa comes back, and only if, they will more likely then not bring the 159 and the Brera. That's all anybody knows so far.

Alfa could just wait to return when the successor of the Brera and 159 comes out in about eight years or however many it takes for Alfa to turn over thier models. At this rate, eight years into the future seems more probable than 2008.

If Alfa-Romeo does plan on returning to North America, it will follow Lotus's path. It will find a specific niche in the marketplace and focus on that and grow slowly. Lotus used that with the Elise and, now, with the Exige. But I think the Lotuses are too European; they have that cosmetic flamboyance you see in Opels and Vauxhauls. Too wild for my taste.
