As opposed to what? They're a European (English, to be exact) brand, after all.

Quick bit of info and opinion:

The Elise was the brainchild of the former Italian buisness man who officially distributed the Lotus brand in Italy for some years until he bought the company a few years back. The "cosmetic flamboyance" can then be unsuprisingly characterized as "Italian" to some degree. Personally, I think that the Elise uses too many plastic decals on its body for my taste...but I wouldn't mind seeing how Alfa would handle the design of a light-weight bare-bones sports car today.

Maybe I am weird, but I like the break from the norm. From the sort of shapless styling. Isn't that why the 8C and Brera are so attractive? Because they look like no other car? Isn't one of the reasons some of us like our Alfa's, is because they turn heads? I for one would love to own a Lotus Elise. They make other sports cars look unfocused in comparison.

Oh the unbearable flamboyance of Opel/Vauxhall (they're the same stupid thing you know).

....and the Speedster is a Lotus Elise with a different (ugly) body and slightly different engine offerings (such as the rather nice turbo) and a different cheaper price - but hey - it's still an Opel/Vauxhall
