I'm glad to hear that your pan is OK, Sarah. The motor mounts are definitely shot if the motor lifted like that. On the other hand, lots of Alfa Spiders run around with busted motor mounts for a long time without any trouble. Please have a look at your fan, shroud and radiator for any damage that the hit may have caused, OK?
Cheers,

Sarah,My dad flew P51 Mustangs & P47 Thunderbolts. He liked the P51 better. His unit flew bomber escort, over Italy mostly (just along for the ride, the bombers do the damage) I think the Alfa plant in Milan was a little the worse for wear at the close of the war. BTW his unit never lost a bomber to an enemy fighter. Not much they could do about Flak.

Bluscuro, my family was in WWII as well, Dad blew up a latrine ( ours unfortunately) and Uncle was B-17 pilot flying 26 or 27 missions over der fatherland (Germany) What did your dad fly? Maybe they were in service together- you never know.
I guess the alfa appeals to pilots because then they can fly on the ground as well. Just a theory.

I'm a "Postdoctoral Research Associate", which as with most job titles makes it sound a lot more grandiose than it is. I'm a protein crystallographer, doing basic research into proteins involved in cancer, aging, that sort of thing, at a non-profit research institute in La Jolla, CA. Might look into going into industry for better pay and more appreciation though!

My grandfather was a fighter pilot in WWII. He flew a Focke Wulf 190D, for the other side.

Kai,
One of my grandfathers was a waist gunner & crew chief on a B-24 Liberator in Europe and then a POW. Maybe our grandfathers exchanged a couple rounds!
My other grandfather was in an artillery unit in Europe.
I think this thread is creeeeeeeeping. And its ALFemale's fault too by the way!

sorry about that Rob, The whole flying and Alfas flying sorta diverted me. I promise no more WWII stories.
Didn't Alfa make airplanes around the time of WWII? Hey... at least it's back about Alfas. I know they made some sort of military machine. I guess this is one for Dr. Ecterini.
Best, Sarah.

Just teasing you Sarah....you're an easy target!
Alfa made quite a few aircraft engines. While sitting at an airport last month I was leafing through a book called "Great Propeller Airliners" or something like that and sure enough during WWII Alfa and Fiat made many engines. Of course all the engines in those days were absolutely huge monsters....500-1000hp, V-12s and radials.
If I ever find that book again I'll copy some pictures & post them here. There weren't many good pictures of the engines themselves but the aircraft they were installed into were pretty impressive for the time.

My second hobbies is working on vintage aircraft. I don't have pictures of the Alfa engines, but here are a couple of pictures of one of the WWII planes that used one. For a complete??? story, go to: www.comandosupremo.com/Bredaba65.html

Hmmm
Like Toptick, I was once a bond broker, for years trading in institutional fixed income derivatives, mostly Mortgage Backed CMOs etc....
I switched and started trading energy derivatives (electricity and natural gas spreads) in the mid-90's and ended my energy career with software sales to traders like my former toadies at Enron and such... I am done with the energy business.
Actually, I'm done with the corporate world all the way. I own a 4000 square foot colour concept salon and derma clinic in Seattle Washington... We have 17 employees with room for 50 and it's mine.
