Well, I certainly feel better about flying these days knowing there are so many Alfa nuts in the airline industry!

I work for Siebel Systems, designing and maintaining internal systems for email, database, filesharing, and our own CRM products. My main responsibility is disaster recovery preparedness and testing. I make sure that our hardware data replication scheme works well with server clustering to provide the best redundancy possible. We're one of the few companies outside the financial industry to have completely redundant datacenters.

There does seem to be a large number of aviation folks in the ALFA community. I own an old Cessna 150, number N627M

After reading all the other cool occupations, I'm a little embarassed. I'm an accountant for a large Denver area hospital (Swedish Medical Center). We have 1800 employees and three Alfas in the parking lot. My 1750 GTV and two doctor's 164s.

I run the US business for a small Canadian Biotechnology Company. We specialize in engineered enzymes for natural fiber applications. I spend most of my time in Bleached Pulp Mills so you guys & gals can have nice white paper to print, write, and "other" uses.

I forgot to answer my own question.

I am a foreign currency trader.

I help small and medium sized companies facilitate there currency transactions.

A few of my clients are in the automobile industry, mostly car exporters ( from Canada to the US ) or car importers ( from Europe to Canada )

Hi All (Ciao Tutti),

This thread is growing fast!

I just retired from the Canadian Navy (just last week). For the past four years, I was "on-loan" to the US Navy as the Director of Allied Warfare at the USN's Surface Warfare Development Group.

I have just returned from Montreal, Canada, where I have accepted a job as the Product Manager for Naval Munitions with Canada's largest ammunition manufacturer. I'll be doing a lot of traveling (nothing new there!).

So, I guess I'm an "International Arms Dealer" now

seems to be a lot of similar occupations.

I am a production artist (graphic design, color correction that sort of thing) at a large NYC daily Newspaper and also a night manager there. I drive my Alfa (depending on which is in running condition at the time) to and from work. Most people who know me stop in the halls and ask me how the car is - the spider.

Driving home last night I hit a steel plate in the road. It hit HARD and shoved the oil pan guard up into oil pan. As I was jacking up the car this morning to remove guard and bang it back into shape, I noticed two dents coming up from under the hood. I hit so hard the motor came up and dented the hood (AND CRACKED THE PAINT - OH MY NEW PAINT JOB!!!) from the inside. Ugh. NYC and Alfa's is a volatile relationship. I work all the time to pay for my car that gets me to the job that I work all the time at...

ALfemale,

I know someone that was able to get the city of Chicago to fully reimburse them for 2 bent wheels suffered at the hand of a metal grate/pothole combo. I'd get out your camera, shoot some pictures, and then get an estimate from a body shop...

Worth a try.

Not a bad idea. It is a new development - this steel plate and I hit it leaving work at quarter to two in the morning on 57th St. I just knew with that awful slam sound that I was in for some fun... getting up to take the guard off and bang it back to former shape was not in my original plans this morning I had origiinally been looking forward to a little sleep. silly me.

I am going to get my camera and take a few shots. It's worth a try. Worst thing that will happen is they say no. Best is they pay to fix my hood. Good idea and thanks for advice!

Sarah.

Sorry to hear about the grate Sarah! I wish you luck in getting the city to compensate.

If the engine moved that much, doesn't that mean that the motor mounts are too flexible and should be replaced? Also, are you sure that the sump guard did not crack your lower sump pan? When I hit a curb in my Spider it dented the sump guard and cracked the pan.

I’m a freelance photographer, mostly magazine editorial,a lot of food and wine, restaurants,Chefs etc. Some personality / celebrity stories / portraits. Also corporate / advertising. (I know SpongeBob!)
There are a number of photographers among the members, and graphic artists too. I’ve wondered if the appeal is the same - a design esthetic that is not flashy and looks great for decades.
As for all the pilots on the AlfaBB,my father was a fighter pilot in WWII. So maybe I got some of whatever it is you guys have.

Kai, I took a good look at oil pan while I was under the car, and it looked just fine thankfully, but I think I might have busted a motor mount or something of that nature. I will spend Monday dealing with that. I am now driving a LOT more carefully. snarl...

As for all 'artist types' on the bb, It's the shape of the old Alfas that really first grabbed my attention. the nose and the logo really appealed to me. They really bellisimo!

Bluscuro, my family was in WWII as well, Dad blew up a latrine ( ours unfortunately) and Uncle was B-17 pilot flying 26 or 27 missions over der fatherland (Germany) What did your dad fly? Maybe they were in service together- you never know.

I guess the alfa appeals to pilots because then they can fly on the ground as well. Just a theory.

Sarah.
