86 alfa romeo spider broken trunk cord.

I have a 1986 alfa romeo spider. My problem is the trunk won't open, the cord to unlock the trunk extends all the way but wont unlatch the trunk. Is there some other way to open my trunk.

2 ways:

1) you can remove the cover that the release handle resides in and grab the cable with pliers in the hopes that it's still attached back at the trunk latch.

If it is, you'll be able to pull it and pop the lid.
If it ain't you'll end up just pulling the cable out of its sleeve.

2) laying on your back under the center of the rear bumper, you'll see a small hole that goes directly up through the floor of the trunk way toward the back.

Take a long screwdriver and run it up through that hole, then bump up against things as one of them is the trunk release arm.

There's several threads on the subject down in the spider subsection, and the FAQ located there has a link to a means of installing an emergency release cable for the event that the factory one fails.

You might wanna look into an emergency hood release too (also in the FAQ) cause if you think getting into a stuck trunk is hard, you ain't seen nothin' yet when it comes to the hood.

Pic of what the trunk latch looks like.

Tape measure is to give you an idea how long a tool you'll need.
The arm with the hole in it at the 7" mark is the thing you wanna push toward the left side of the car.
