" Save the Milano!!".,,,,,,,,, Yep, someone's gotta do it!!

I have to speak out. There is a terrible crime against Alfas happening every day. Milanos are being wantonly murdered for their 3.0's, their torsion bars, and precious little else- before they get crushed!!!
Stop it, Dammit!! These are Great cars, with the heart of the GTV6 in them, but a more usable cabin!! They may be 'different' looking, but they have a beauty that is coming into its own, literally, it was "Years before its time".

Stop sacrificing these great cars for GTV6 bits!!!

[and I think most of you know I say this from the point of view of a Devout Lover of GTV6's]

Now now. One of the things that helped me sleep at night when we spent $ for our Verde was, "if God dropped a rock on it tomorrow it'd still be worth $ because of that motor."

That said, I'm sniffing a sort of Renaissance for these "ugly ducklings." US Alfisti say, "they're just old cars in Europe," to which I say, "yes, but who would've though someone would pay $30k for a 1966 Chevy Impala?" The Milano, the 75, represents a certain time, and a certain place, in European history. The base models, as I understand it, really were not much more than better-engineered Caprices. But tricked out, well, tricked out they were something every kid wanted. And now those kids are all grown up.

Well, that what I hope for, anyway. We only ever got the tricked out ones, but they sold in the hundreds, not the tens of thousands they did in Europe. If nostalgia doesn't pick up the slack at some point, I'll never be able to rebuild my shifter!

Ha!

First of all, I don't think it's happening every day. There were less than 900 3.0 Milanos imported into the US, so if it was happening every day it would be over already.

Second, I've parted out a couple of Verdes now, and will happily part out our LeMons Milano 3.0 when it turns it's final lap. I can assure you, I'm not pulling 3.0 motors out of perfectly good Milanos. I don't think anybody is, it doesn't make sense.

The first Verde I parted out was a rusty New England daily driver. While that one may have been a candidate for restoration, financially it wouldn't make any sense at all. There are too many rust free Milanos to waste any time or $$$ doing significant repair on a rusty one.

The second one was a car that seems to have been two Milanos grafted together, and not very well done. It did the crab walk.

The LeMons car, we had to weld in something to attach the base of the roll cage to, and the rockers are mostly expanding foam. Hardly worth restoring.

So sorry, I'm not going to stop pulling 3.0 motors out of these kinds of cars. The cars are done for, I'm recycling the motors!

The 3.0 experience

I`ve been driving my Verde (that is for sale) since installing the FI system a couple of weeks ago. It is truly one of the best driving cars Alfa ever built. I would rather see it have a normal Alfetta set of gears in it with LSD and 4,1 R&P for better acceleration, but Alfa was building to emission & fuel economy standards.

With the big torsion bars & springs it is a 4 door handling machine in anyone`s book however.
They are perfect donor cars, for a nice 4 door Alfetta!!! Instant loss of about 500 lbs and that "rear ended Volvo look!

Okay Brian, not EVERY day !! And, yes, when a cars done, its done.
I am maybe overly sensitive. I have , though, seen several Verdes AND other model Milanos get boned for bits well before their time recently.
I'm sure Alfetta sedan folks and even Berlinetta people have said the same in years past.

I'd love to own one, and when my GTV is finished I will simply go and buy one, whether the wife likes it or not.

If by chance I stop posting after my post about my new to me Alfa 75 (as we call them down here) ... you will know what has happened ... LOL .

She thinks they are way too ugly. I actually prefer the looks to the GTV6 and the performance is perfect for a road car.
Pete
ps: I'd actually like to club race one ... just for fun, and all

I have been driving Milano 3.0L Verdes for years now. I am a big fan of how they handle and actually love their quirky styling. To me, the best part is that they DON'T look like a sports car! They slip waaaaaaay under the radar of most people - including the law - and are great fun to drive.

Save a Milano today...win valuable prizes!

As the owner of an Alfetta Sedan and a Milano Verde I understand what you mean. Heck, I have heard of Alfetta's being killed off for their pedal boxes for a Verde non-abs conversion! I guess it is a pecking order thing.

Love both of mine and am looking for more projects - even posted for dead/beater milanos in the cars wanted section to take apart, collect some spares, and learn more about them while keeping both mine on the road. At this point I think amost all the verdes are in enthusists hands so there will not be many more killed before they need to be. One of the biggest problems is the economics of it - as you surely know with your gtv6 business. When alfettas/milanos come up for sale they generally sit with no takers for days/weeks/months. It is sometimes cheaper to get an entire car, snatch whatever you need, and sell the rest as parts.

I'll agree with Richard and add one thought. I think that any Verde that isn't worth fixing should be donated for recycling to us poor Alfetta sedan owners as organ donors.....

Any one out there want to see their ratty looking Verde live on??

I bought my Milano Verde five years ago almost to the day, if you sort out the ABS and stay on top of the maintenance schedule they're actually great cars. I'm of the opinion that someone stated above that the value of these cars will hit rock bottom (just like any 1980s cars) but come back up strong the same way Giulias did. It may take then twenty more years but it will happen.

People criticize the styling inside and out. Outside is a matter of personal preference but the inside: my Milano shares daily duties with an '84 Mercedes 300D. Aside from the undescribable gain in speed there are some things I appreciate when I drive the Milano that the MB doesn't have such as a storage bin to the left of the steering wheel, etc. It was a good, well thought out design, just one that was poorly received.

How do you like when you change cars and can't figure out where the damn window switches are? I had a Verde, a 300TD, a 740 GLE and a GTV-6 all at the same time. it usually took me three tries to open the window because all the window switches were in different places in all four cars.....

The windows I'm used to, the sunroof throws me off though. And in the Milano I always reach with my left hand to release the brake and find nothing.
