Mac,

Outstanding!. Thanks for sharing (I guess the Alfa engine is an OFFY/Meyer Drake wannabe?... and is the car a "Calhoun" replica?)

I love it! The Alfa engine sort of looks like an Offy, but it runs on gasoline. That makes it authentic looking and practical. The best of both worlds.

I am impressed with this car. It's a real work of art.

Is this one of the "replica" cars that are currently offered?

I saw (I would guess 3/4 scale) Indy roadster a few years ago at the local sports show and fell in love with it after growing up following Rodger Ward and the Watson Leader Car "specials" during the early 60's. As I recall, that car had a 4 cylinder with a motorcycle type trans. I would be even more impressed if this car could have an Alfa engine, especially because I probably have a "spare" 1600 sitting around. The car I'm thinking about even had an "SCCA" legal option with brake lights if you wanted.

Want to hear a lot more about this car! Post a lot more details!

I built this car for a doctor, here in INDY, whose hero is Parnelli Jones.
I built the frame from an original Watson roadster blueprint.
I built the body from my stock Watson roadster molds but had to do a number of modifications to the cowl, hood and add the nose scoop and nose suspension fairings to make it into Parnelli’s "Ol’ Calhoun".
The engine is either a ’90 or ’91 2 litre, equipped with an “old school” Bosch 009 “points” distributor and Bosch “blue” coil, OFFY style exhaust header and 40 DCOE side draft Webers. The ALFA looks like an OFFY and sounds like an OFFY…… maybe we’ll call it an “ALFFY”
The transmission is an ALFA 5 spd and the rear axle is a Speedway Eng. “Mini Quick Change”.

If I can find more ALFA engines and transmission, I hope to build more ALFA powered cars.

If you like the Watson roadster, you might enjoy some of my other cars. Have a look at the following quick link:

THE H.A.M.B.
